Since everyone here is outside more than the rest of the boards I figured this was the best place to ask.

Monday I drove from the Marble Falls area to College Station and the trees were amazing. Yesterday I went to Austin and saw the best colors I've ever seen along Hwy 71.

The week before Thanksgiving I went to Kerrville and followed the Guadalupe until it ended and then went on to Leakey the Cypress trees were red, but that was about all, I was expecting more from looking at what the Lost Maples website was saying.

So my question is do the colors move from east to west, or from north to south? Trying figure out which way go this weekend.

There were very vibrant colors in north east Callahan county. If you're traveling south on 6 into Cisco you might mistake it for Vermont. The big rolling hills were orange and red. It was really cool.

Lost Maples should be lit up right now. Our place near Utopia is in the peak of fall colors.

Seems like this year there is more color than usual. Maybe due to the dry summer?

I had noticed this year was pretty good for color in central Texas. More gold and orange instead of yellow to dead.

Mckittrick Canyon and Devil's Hall trail at GMNP were great in October. I was about a week or two too early for the real show.

I was thinking about hitting lake austin this weekend to see what it looks like in fall, it has lots of tree types that should make decent color.

factor could be the stretch of freezing to near-freezing weather that occurred in mid-November, a little ahead of schedule. Colder weather helps break down the chlorophyll in the leaves allowing the red and the orange pigments to shine through. also the extended days of colder weather increased anthocyanin formation, the pigment that produces red and purple leaves.

So whether it was the dry, hot summer, or the autumn rain, or even the timing and duration of colder days, one thing is for sure: our Texas leaves are showing off their colors this year.

I was in Leakey, Rio Frio & Utopia last weekend before returning to my sand hill here in the greater Floresville/ La Vernia metroplex. I can confirm it was a beautiful weekend and the fall colors were indeed out. It was a nice change of scenery.

Fished Fayette Co the last 2 weekends and had the same thought on the colors....stood out enough that I had the exact same thought that they just seem brighter this year

I took 36 from Abilene to Hamilton a couple days ago and it was amazing. Did not expect that.

Thanks everyone, looks like they do their thing based on conditions more than north to south or east to west.

I lived in Colorado for a while after high school and elevation was a big deal with the colors changing. Whitehall is probably the same thing, it gets cold up high first and that works its way down.

Looks like today is the probably the last day, so I'm off to drive the twisted sisters before the wind blow the leaves off tomorrow.

You mind me asking where that exact photo was taken? It's exceptional. What park and trail? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that one was on Devils Hall trail in Guad Mountains NP.

Our leaves in Corpus pretty much just wear out, turn brown, and fall off. I miss the colors at the ranchito.
Being in TexAgs jail changes a man……..no, not really
