So, relocated back to my hometown to take over the family business. New Mexico magazine has had a running page for decades called "One of our fifty is missing" filled with stories of people not knowing New Mexico is a state in the US. Well, it's official, it's now part of Nicaragua.

When I make phone calls from my office phone, the caller ID comes up +505 505-xxx-xxxx where +505 is the country code for Nicaragua so it IDs the calls as Nicaragua.

Just a PSA for y'all.

What's your line of work? I travel north of Mora via Las Vegas regularly to see my parents. I've passed through the Tecolote area many times.

My family got tired of getting speeding tickets in NM while going five mph under the speed limit just because we have Texas tags, so we avoid the state altogether now. The state has some incredible beauty, just not worth it.

Yep, had more traffic stops in NM in the last two years than in the last 20 living and traveling everywhere. And I have NM plates!

Now, it is beautiful. But, I'm actually pleased with joining Nicaragua. Maybe I can actually find some workers that show up and work!

Unfortunately, I think that's a problem in every state. God be with us all.

Texas should just take back what parts were originally a part of Texas.

Gave it back to the U.S. in the Compromise of 1850, in exchange for the relief of $10 million dollars of debt….

So Texas can assume $10 million of the national debt and have it back?

Yes, with inflation, so $10 trillion dollars.

But you gain a population that has probably 40% that are receiving government checks.

I've always thought that Texas should pay to construct a double-decked express lane between Clayton and Raton. We've paid for it, Mr. NM Highway Patrol. Just leave us alone and let us get to Colorado.

I was at the horse races in ruidoso and a resident called the family in front of us "white license plate *ssholes". They're not fans of us apparently.

The good thing about NM speeding tickets is how cheap they are, I crumple them up and chunk them in the back seat and keep rockin on. Just the cost of getting home much faster. It's about 3 NM tickets to one Texas ticket cost wise. My wife hates me when I drive in NM

That's OK. We got an extra 1000 square miles of eastern New Mexico thanks to a surveying error in 1859.

Trump will fix it.

Just not a fan of the state. Seems to be one of the weirdest states in the country - at least politically.

This. Last one I had was like $30 and no defensive driving needed. 10/10 would speed again.

Got into Farmington last year around 10 at night and decided to eat at a late night dive and then spend the night. That is a weird ass town and it seemed all the employees were zombies. So weird. The hotel wasn't any better and after unpacking the truck, all of the guns in it went up to the room. Won't stop there again. Just gave us both a really bad vibe being there.

Lived in Farmington from 03-08 and loved it. Definitely some strange places but the nicer parts of town are out of the way and full of great folks. Such a great location for outdoor activities! Was an amazing place to do O&G work when nat gas prices were "up and to the right".

Many people from my west Texas hometown own a second home in Ruidoso. A local referred to them as "entitled cotton farmers ".

They don't like white license plates.

Texas plates, have been traveling NM at least 5 times a year for the past 10. Mostly down I-40, but other areas as well. NM locals told us that NM allows 10 over the limit. Routinely drive approx 83 in the 75, never stopped.

The one time I've been stopped in NM, I was dealing with a line of slowpokes on a two lane road. Floored it to get around them, kept speed up to separate. Got caught doing about 20 over the limit. Was polite, showed him my Texas Concealed Carry Permit, got off with a warning.

Santa Fe and ABQ are liberal hell holes. Outside of the Indian reservations, the rest of the state is fairly conservative, and much like West Texas.

To be fair, Ruidoso is overrun by folks from Lubbock, the majority of whom are TTech fans.

So the hate is reasonable.

Slow down, pull off 84 at Des Moines, and take 325/72 through Folsom and over the top of Johnson Mesa, or even go up 456 a little and see the Dry Cimarron.

Thank me later.

10 over might be a hair over. I normally drive 82 in the 75 zones (and man is that hard as I feel like I'm crawling). Got stopped outside of town on my way home in NM for 82 but it was 1 am so he likely was hoping I was a DWI - still pissed me off as that wasn't enough to even get a look. He gave me a warning as he knew my family and our business.

Glad the guy gave you a warning for the 20 over. In NM, 20 over is a mandatory appearance (albeit by Zoom).

I used to do a lot of driving in NM and was never pulled over. I was pulled over by DPS outside of Hereford for doing 72 in a 70.

I got out of that one after I explained that I was on vacation in Colorado when I got a call that my sister died. I was heading home to Waco to help with arrangements.

Can Verify.

I lived in Las Cruces for 6 months this past year and either went to Cloudcroft or Ruidoso ever other weekend. Crazy how some people don't know how to act right in public at a semi decent restaurants.

Other than that though, I had no real issues. Drove on I 10 and I 25 like a Bat ouf of Hell all the time, never had an issue.

We go to Ruidoso for a month in the summer and bring our dog. One time we needed a medication refill for the dog and called our vet in Cypress TX.

They told us they can't help us if we are out of the country.

We switched vets.
