What is your favorite lantern for camping? Dont really care if it's battery or old school. I'd like something bright so I can see well when we are camping. Thanks!

I use a coleman propane lantern. I've never been happy with a battery powered one for anything more than a tent.

If you have a generator, you can run those lights they have for road work at night. Campground neighbors might frown on it though.

We ran So. TX deer camps starting in the 70s with single mantle white gas pump up Coleman lanterns. We were still running a deer camp with the same lanterns (non improved lands) until three years ago with the same lanterns from the 70's, and also a propane cylinder Northstar.

Also, the pump up white gas stoves.

Nothing like the hiss. Retired dad's with the round globe years ago to the backyard to sit around the pit for the evenings and memories. Found two extra round globes from the 70's after he passed about 10 years ago in his stash.

Also inherited a double mantle of the same time frame when my FIL passed about the same time. It too is great.

My son and I lost our lease two years ago, after 11 years b/c land sold. I will have these, and dad's on the next one for sure.

History is useful, and dependable. And better to pass stories on with a cold beer, with the hiss in the background.

Double mantle propane Coleman.

Those things put out a crap load of light, you can warm up a kolache on them, and fairly easy to use.

I like the Ryobi lanterns that use the same batteries as everything else I use. Add in a spotlight and flashlight and you have a lot of lights that all use the same rechargeable battery

Petromax is the best, but you will pay for it.

Ah yes, the old Coleman "hiss!" Lots of great memories associated with that sound!

Double mantle Coleman propane.... can't beat them.

I also have the Coleman Northstar 1500.... hate that thing with a passion.
