Earlier this week in my town…

We are friends with this family. Saw the dad today (he's our farrier) and he said it was surreal and God's providence and protection was all over the situation. 11 stitches in his daughter's shoulder/back but she should be back on the basketball court right after Thanksgiving.

The restaurant is in town and adjacent to the University campus but we're in a rural area. Deer everywhere.

Did they take down the deer and now it's polish sausage? Seriously, I'm glad she is alright!

I had a friend clip a doe in mid 90s in the middle of the night in Austin on I35. After impact, the doe jumped off the overpass and broke her legs. State trooper arrived on scene and asked my friend to shoot the deer for him so he didn't have to do a bunch of paperwork for discharging his firearm on duty.

Friend dispatched the doe with a knife and showed up to deer camp with a hell of a story and pictures.

Once had a young buck break his leg on I35 north of Waco and attempt to jump through our business window. This was a slow summer Sunday, and it was surreal to watch the dispatched cop shoot the deer by the First American Bank and I35 as traffic is whizzing by.

I laughed too hard at that mom doing the "scared shuffle". I'm sure I would have **** myself too.

Teen in so much shock has no clue she is injured. Likewise the parents the same and have no awareness to check her.

Only cool cat in there was the guy who opened the door.

I'm back to address some of the questions/comments:

-word on the street is that it was unlawful for the person to shoot the deer but most are not citing any specific reason. Possibilities include: unlawful discharge of firearm inside city limits, unlawful discharge of a firearm where alcohol is served, currently muzzleloader/archery season only so unlawful weapon, "spotlighting" since the deer was dispatched after dark, among others. This is all speculation of course.

The good news is we are in a rural, very hunting-friendly area where most of our county officials, judges, attorneys, etc. hunt…

I do think it is reasonable to claim self defense but I am not an attorney nor pretend to be one.

-I guess because I personally know the family, I don't find anything humorous or laughable when watching the video. Go to the 0:07 mark and look at the huge shard of plate glass that goes between the two teenage girls. Couple inches either way, or if the toddler had been sitting between them, would likely have had a fatal outcome.

-Dad said he watched the glass break in pieces and where each piece was falling but it almost seemed like slow motion. Said it was weird but there was a "halo" of protection around the kids.

-girl complained her head hurt so they were examining her head when they realized she was bleeding from her back.

-they don't love the sudden viral fame but are choosing to use it to share the gospel message of Christ.

In a non-funny post, that glass needs to be tempered. If they own the building, they should have done that. If they are leasing the space, I'd be having a talk with the landlord.
