Looking to hunt out there a few times this year and was looking for a few logistical answers.

1. What does the gator situation look like out there? Safe for dogs?

2. From what I can tell you just show up after 0400 and pick a spot and go, how early do I need to get there?

3. Is it recommended to pull a side by side down or can you drive close enough to make the walk in?

Never hunted it but have hunted the one over by Tivoli across the highway. Wasn't worth a damn and the mud was so bad I didn't even bother putting a spread out. Saw a ton of geese and if I'd had a spread there was a nice little field close by that was within the hunting zone. This was also 15 years ago or so.

sometimes the gators snatch your ducks before you can even walk out and get them. No chance i take my dog, esp this early.

Get there as early as possible

Side by side does you no good. There are designated parking spots right off the road that you must use. You could take your wifes mini-van and be fine.

Man, if there is even the slightest potential for gators, no dog for me. Mother nature is metal, gators gotta eat, and a dog is food just like anything else to them

The Tivoli Unit can hunt very well. I went there a bunch early 2000's. Some good walk-in spots and if you bring a kayak - you can paddle into better spots in the bay. There's a slough not too far from the parking. Keep a light in your wader pocket to wave off the airboats to keep them off you. Saw some gators but no issues.

Watched a monster gator eat a pig in seadrift some years back. You could hear the bones snapping like twigs.

I may go Saturday if I don't go hunt with someone over by Rockport. I'm going to be visiting in-laws in Victoria.

Anywhere that has gators and you're worried about your dog, watch the temperature… gators won't feed with water temps less than 65-70F and they basically go dormant at 50F.

And this is coming from someone that hunts on several locations with a bunch of gators and has a dog. Lower Temperature is your friend

Yea I did and from what I was told, that was a light crowd! They had 71 hunters opening morning. According to the biologist I spoke to everyone shot birds as well.

I dunno, just not my cup of tea. I thought Choke was getting bad but it's nothing compared to that mess.
