I shot a GunWerks 7MM PRC this weekend and was very impressed. The gun seemed to have less recoil than my suppressed 308, performed very well out to 600 yards and packs a punch upon impact. Seems like the perfect North American do everything rifle to me. Small enough to not destroy whitetail but big enough to ethically harvest elk.

Thinking about picking up a Christensen Ridgeline and putting a Leupold VX5 4x20x52 on her and calling it a day. Considering the GunWerks Werkman rifle as well.

What is the OB's opinion on the 7MM PRC cartridge?

The issue with the 7PRC and 300PRC is ammo availability and selection. 6.5PRC is finally broadly available.

Do you handload?

I don't handload.

Thinking I would buy a few hundred rounds of the Hornady Precision Hunter when I bought the gun. That's the only factory ammo out there outside of the Hornady Outfitter and Match models. The Precision Hunter is what GunWerks sights the guns in for

Meh...My opinion is that if it's still a viable round in 20 years, I'll give it serious thought. For me, having found couple of cool rifles in calibers that were just as popular but now no longer even being manufactured, i'm going to pass. For hunting, I stick to .270, 7mm Rem,.30-06, 300 Win Mag....I can kill as effectively or moreso and buy ammo for those at the drop of a hat. I have just gotten fatigued over all the niche rounds that seem to be pumped out for no good reason other than to say they made it. I just never got excited about all the 6.5, 6.8, creed, prc, etc rounds.

With that in mind, if you like it, then buy it. I think it's fair to say that you are doing what we all do....

You have decided you want it but need a few folks to validate the decision.

Just do it, man.

I almost bought a Winchester Model 70 for 600 bucks because it was a great price on a .....7mm WSM...LOL. I didn't buy it.

I keep waiting for a wider array of factory rifle options available. Lots of rifle makers have said they will be producing a 7 PRC but haven't released one yet. I keep kicking around the idea of just building a custom one as well, would have already done it but daycare for two kids has really cut into my fun money.

I'm with you on the 7 PRC.

Plenty of 7PRC Hornady P Hunter on ammoseek currently and if you are dropping this much on a new gun, just allocate an equal dollars on ammo which will allow you to enjoy the rifle for years to come. Not like there's a poor shelf life of ammo if properly stored. It's not like this is a mag dump caliber.

I'm planning on getting a CA Ridgeline FFT in the 7mm PRC soon. Outfit with a Vortex PST 25x and hoping it runs the Hornady PH well.

I'll make a full post later on but I just took my first animal with my 7prc and it performed very well! I handload and my handloaded 160gr TSX's were devastating. When I figure out how to upload a video from my phone I'll post it.

Screw the gun, let's see the deer!!!

Jk- I have had my eye on the 7PRC since its introduction. I would really love one. I have a 300WM that I have thought about rechambering to 7PRC. But I might be able to just get a new rifle for about the same money one of these days.

I like what Hornady has been doing from a cartridge design perspective. 7 PRC is cool, but almost all of us would kill better if we spent more time shooting something like a 6.5 or 6 creed and used good bullets.

I bet your perception of the recoil has way more to do with the type of stocks gunwerks uses (high heel, negative comb) than the round itself. There's no way there is less recoil energy produced by a 7 PRC than a 308 win.

I'm struggling to find a need to ever hunt with anything other than my 6.5CM with Nosler 142gr ABLRs. Oryx, Auodad, WT. All dead with devastating results. Kids ages 8-14 all love them, have three different rifles all suppressed for them….

I am eyeing a 300PRC though because why not.

I like the 7PRC. But I already have a 6.5PRC. Don't have reason to do both.

Gunwerks makes good guns but I feel they are a bit over priced. You can get pretty much the same gun for less from a local custom shop.

Has Christensen fixed their QC issues? Most guns are great from there but they have had quite a few complaints of accuracy problems. Think they grew too big too fast. That might be fixed now. Most guns from there will dot eyes but would hate to get a lemon

I bought a fierce rogue in 7prc from a local dealer. Purchased as a packaged unit with scope and custom turret. I have not personally shot it yet, so I can't tell you if it is a shooter yet. (Other than the dealer saying it shot good when they sighted it in)

Hornady ammo has been on the shelf every time I've been to Academy since I purchased the rifle.

My cousin bought a Christensen and it would not shoot a group anywhere close to an inch with factory ammo and half a dozen different hand loads. He sent the rifle back and they made it right, but it left a bad taste in his mouth towards the brand and switched to a Fierce.

Whatever brand you purchase, I would buy though a dealer so that they can deal with any potential warranty issues.

Below are some factory 175 ELD-X's, this rifle has shot everything I put in it.

If you want a few more offerings for 7PRC or most any other caliber you can purchase online from Hendershot's or Choice Ammunition. Both make fantastic ammo, but they are pricey.
