My wife is shooting an old Remington 700 ADL 243.
The gun is darn near worn out. Looking for recommendations for a good rifle that will shoot well out of the box. I also want to put a higher end scope with an illuminated reticle. Don't worry about budget, I'll worry about that! Shoot!

In my opinion, which is worth what I'm charging for it, there just aren't many if any rifles that don't shoot better than the shooter out of the box these days.

my preferences in no particular order after the Model 70…

Winchester Model 70
Remington 700
Browning X-Bolt
Ruger M77
Uh…pretty much any name brand in the 800+ price range new.

I really don't think you can go wrong.

Got my wife a Ruger 243 stainless steel years ago and she still loves it. Amazingly accurate. 3x9 Leupold scope.

OB is going to hell. This place is lame. The correct answer is to give her your beloved current rifle and let her know how it's such a sign of your love for her. Then you'll go buy the new one (especially since money is no issue) and do all the hard work of adjusting to and breaking in the new rifle (of your dreams!)

Have you considered having the receiver trued and a new barrel chambered and fitted? Add a new stock and you have a new rifle.

Most accurate rifle I have had out of the box was two different tikkas 270 and 6.5 cm. Shot multiple boxes of ammo assuming I would need to find what the rifle liked and they both shot everything great.

To answer a few questions, it's not really shot "out". The scope is crap. Old Nikon. We are older, 56 and 60. She can't see the crosshairs as well when it's dark. Yesterday evening she killed a pig right at dusk. Hit it in the head but it was hard for her to see the crosshairs on the black pig. I have no rule 1 authority but if I did I'd post pics.

My wife wants to give her old rifle to our first born grandson. I have all kinds of rifles. She's killed deer with my 257 Wby, my custom built 6.5 PRC and my other rifles. She's not afraid of recoil but since graduating from breast cancer surgery she tried to kept it light.

2nd on the Sako. Fine built rifles. Best shooters I have had out of the box other than a Remington 700 VLS in 7mm-08 that is my wife's rifle.

Depends on how much you want spend. A Ruger American Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor is an amazing gun with very little kick. Or go with a Browning 7mm-08 or 25-06 if you want to stay traditional - hell either of these options in .243 will be perfect

Edit : don't discount ammo availability - thst is where 6.5 CM shines

The Ruger American .243 is a shooter. With Leupold glass your wife is good to go. Or as stated above, the same rifle in 6.5 CM.

Pops has a Savage 110 (I think) stainless in .243 that is an absolute tack driver. Wood stock gives it a little heft and zero felt recoil. Leo 3x9 up top. Good to go.
