Power wash it with some type of cleaner …. But I'm in the chemical business, if it doesn't come off with a power washer, try something like Goof off spray then power wash, if that don't work try some toluene or xylene (and paint thinner) from Home Depot paint section …. If that don't work try some glycol ethers (standard brake fluid) and parts washer solvent.. but I think power washer will work. If none of that works dynamite your drive way

Might try straight dawn and a little water with a scrub brush and hose down if you don't have pressure washer.

You could always mix a little diesel and gasoline together and then pour some on the oil spot and rub it in a little and then light it on fire .. it will burn the oil off.. we test the flammability of some heavier oils by blending them w lighter material like alcohols to see how we can blend flash points w a heavy oil .. it's not linear but you can make the oils burn much better .. or just power wash it.. prob not best listening to us chemical guys.. we like trying all kinds of stuff just for the hell of it

Don't use any solvents or petroleum products on it as they will release the tar oils that bind the asphalt rock together and your rock will then come apart and you will compromise the asphalt.
On our asphalt shop floors I clean oil spills with concentrated Simple Green. Spray it on with a spray bottle, let it sit a while, then brush it with a stiff brush. Then you can rinse that with a hose with a spray nozzle or use a pressure washer but not at a real high psi.

Was told the same about Simple Green. Did not work for me.

Gotta use the concentrated mixture that is available commercially, not the store bought pre mix.
Only source I have found is on line chemical companies or Janitorial Supply companies.
Caution to not breathe the spray.
I have also had good results using a Eco Labs commercial grade dish machine powdered detergents. Highly caustic but won't ruin the tar. But it's hard to get if you're not an Eco Labs dealer or user.

I did an ETA above about using Eco Labs commercial restaurant dishwashing machine detergent. My BIL used to work for them and would get it for me. It was caustic as heck but would not loosen the tar.
It came out of their institutional division. However they have a division now that sells to dairy and ag clients and they have the same stuff for cleaning asphalt floors etc.
Don't know the name of it. It worked great we used it on the tarmac at airports to remove oil from dripping aircraft.

The caution not to breathe is a good sign. The regular stuff at Big Lots is for hippie moms doing squaw work.

Anything petroleum based will degrade the asphalt as it will dissolve the oils and tars in teh asphaltic compounds.

For surface, best you can do is soak it with something like a concentrated simple green or purple power, power wash and then get some kitty litter/absorbent and put a thin layer down - then grind it in with your feet. Repeat until you have a good layer of really fine absorbent ground into the asphalt. Let it sit for 48 hours, power wash off. Repeat a few times and you'll get most of the surface oils up.
