How long do you want to ignore this user?
Need a generator to run 2 crock pots, a mini fridge, a 2 rice cookers. I have no clue how much wattage I'd need. Would like to get something that's quieter. TIA.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Other than the fridge they are fairly low power. Do you have specs on the fridge?

Actually mini-fridges pull very little but the heat sources are the largest consumer. Not uncommon for the fridge to be below 100 w but the cookers may be over 1,000 ea.

Same as this.

Easy way is to look at the appliance plates, take the amps, times it by the volts (usually 110-120) and then total each of those up for total watts.

So 20 amps, 120 volts is 2400 watts, which is a typical kitchen counter circuit.

The fridge one has to consider spike amp draw for the compressor motor, so use 30 amps and 120 volts for 3600 watts.

So a 6500 watt generator should suffice, just make sure it is amp rated high enough, in general, 80% of the amp load is all one can rely on for anything more than an hour...

You might look into getting a pair of predator 3500 inverters from harbor freight and wiring them in parallel. Sounds like you might get away with one for the fridge and another for the rest of the stuff but i think putting them in parallel would add a margin of safety

I have a 3500 Harbor Freight red Predator .. you can't beat these for the price .. I'm thinking about getting the 9500 they have for a house backup ..

I bought one of these, but have not used it yet.

Does anyone know much about 30amp vs 50amp inverter generators? The problem with the 5000 linked above is that it does not produce 240/50amp. What I am wondering about is if you run 2 5000s in parallel, does the parallel kit actually produce 50 amp/240V... I know it has a 50 amp plug on the parallel kit, but do not think it actually produces 240...

Can you parallel the 5000 with a bigger predator like the 9500?

My RV needs 50 amp, although the 5000 reviews online show it running RVs with 2 ACs. But I also want to parallel it with another gen to power my house for backup. Not sure if 2 5000s is the best option for that. Supposedly Predator is coming out with a 6000/7000 option soon, but don't know when. The best current gen out for my situation is the GenMax 7250, but nervous about the Chinese brand. Many good reviews, but it seems there a % of lemons out there. The problem is that I don't want to get one, it works, then it sits for a year until needed and it doesn't work in an emergency.

I'm an old engineer and am impressed by this thread. After you have calculated exactly how big a generator you need with this impressive, exacting and very scientific method, buy a generator 4 times bigger than your calculations show you need.

Per google:

Crock pot is 120W
Rice Cooker is 400W
Mini Fridge surge is 300W

120*2+400*2+300=1340W

1340W/120V= 11.2A

So any ~2000W generator with a 15A or 20A breaker will work

I googled a little bit and couldn't find a 240V 50A parallel kit, several people make a 120V 50A one

Thanks. Made my job easier. I'll probably go 4X what I actually need.

get a 2000w honda quiet one. It'll hold it's value. And a tank of gas on it will run.... all damn day.

My dad has the 3000w Honda and we regularly run our entire tailgate on it with crockpots, microwave, tv, sound system, etc.

More than he likely needed but it hasn't missed a beat in years.

Lots of companies are making 2k watt quiet generators if you're looking for a cheaper option than the $1k or the honda.
