Was thinking about waking up early on Saturday morning to take my 7 YO to toss a plastic worm in the ponds at Aggie Park. Was wanting to see if it's worth our time.

Please don't cast stones at me. We are coming from West Texas and we don't get many chances at a stocked pond.

Never fished the pond, but you should feel no shame for wanting to take a kid fishing, no matter what it is.

My 11 year old loves fishing. Every Wednesday and Saturday (our lakes have weird rules in San Diego) he goes out with his pole and a box of worms to catch bluegill. A few bass, but 95% bluegill. Sure, we could be out today catching tuna or rockfish, but the kid just loves catching fish, even bluegill. And he can clean them and fry them himself.

You will likely not be the only one out there if you go Saturday morning. Good luck with parking since it is a gameday, but I have seen many good fish pulled out of there

I usually take my kids early Saturday/Sunday morning. Area under the bridge is over 10ft deep so definitely let it sink. They stocked Rainbows last year in December. If they stock them again use a split shot, small hook, and neon yellow Powerbait dough. I crimped my barbs down on the hooks to minimize damage.

There's also a stocked pond behind the Bush Library. It's catch and release only, so bring barb-less hooks if you want to fish there.

I took my now 10 year old son to Aggie Park to fish early in the summer and he caught 10 fish in 2 hours.
He was fishing with night crawlers. Good times!

From my understanding it's been stocked pretty well. Also I think catch and release for now. Rainbows might be an exception. They usually are

There won't be any trout still alive. The water is too hot. But there will be bass & bream. Not sure if they stocked catfish too.

Sorry to be clear trout are stocked in cold weather. They die off in the heat which is why I think you can keep those. They stock Jan/Feb. I have not seen anything on catfish
