Sitting near a tank with mojo's? Sun flower field? Back porch and natty lights?

One of the better spots I ever hunted was a sand and gravel pit near Bastrop. Those dove loved it.

Usually either a stock tank under a tree or on the edges of a shredded field in the evening.

In a full Ghillie suit, of course.

I will start with saying you cant kill them if you dont shoot so if one is remotely close I am blasting. I hunt with a full choke so I can reach out there pretty good. If hunting a tank and the birds are actually flying I will stay put and wait, if nothing is flying I will get up and walk the surrounding fields and try to make something happen. I get ridiculed for this but mostly by people who dont sit in front of a computer for 8-10 hours a day. Mojos/Decoys are used most occasions. My old man made some portable "trees" so I can put them up in almost any situation.

With the price of bullets these days I may start doing like my buddies dad did back in the day. His dad would buy him one box of shells that had to last all season. He would sit in the shade of a cattle feeder near a tank and do his homework (substitute homework for texags for me) waiting until he could line up 3-4 in one shot out of the mesquites.

We hunt in a chair close to each telephone pole. With a mojo about 20 yards away. After about 10 in the bag, I like to stand as the birds are flying in and let the bird make its best move before shooting.

Right next to a stock tank that's within 50 yards of some power line poles. Corn field to the north by a couple hundred yards. Probably have 5 or 6 mojos between me and my dad, don't always throw all of them up but usually have a few out and going,

Corn was harvested quite awhile ago, so probably won't get any help from that this year. But the power line that runs through the property is a main line to the city of Caldwell, so sometimes you can get groups of dove following it out from the city in the morning or back to it in the evening.

As close to the truck and beer as possible. Seriously though, it always seems like the dude next to his truck throwing them down is the first guy to limit. Meanwhile, when I walk 500 yards to the corner of a field I get half the birds… stay close to the truck and be comfortable - it's just dove hunting

I move around a bit. I like to bs with my friends, so I will drag my stool and beverage around to each and sit for a bit, then move to the next. Unless I am covered up, then I will stay put and commence the $hi+ talking. If I am the first to limit, you are gonna hear about it.

Watching them fly around my backyard by the dozen, sneering at my impotent rage.

Head to the field, set up the mojo's, clip on decoys, homemade dove tree, then plop down in a stool on a promising fence line or tank dam- only to spend the next 5 hours sweating to death and swatting mosquitos while burning through 6 shells on the only two helplessly lost dove that happened to fly within 50 yards of me.

One of my cousins does this every opening morning. Annoying as F, he is usually leaning on his shotgun with the barrel on his boot or dangerously holding it by the barrel on top of his shoulder. Luckily he only comes out opening morning. Will come and stand right beside me while I'm trying to hunt.

We have 5+ acres of sunflowers that we mow into strips. Have a caliche road that runs through the middle and a pond on the east edge. That pond is dry this year so we lost one attraction.

First hunt I am all business trying to limit out quickly. After that I spend my time trying to make sure all my family members have a good time so I'm on the move. Once all the visitors leave on Sunday I like to sit on a hill overlooking the sunflowers and a valley. Drink beer and listen to music with the Mrs and try to get a few between all the b.s. we are spewing.

i agree with this. why rush or work hard to limit? i want to maximize my time to cram as many beers, little debbies, fritos and bean dip down my gullet as possible.

I've seen a lot of ranches do this, where there is a small parcel of land cut out from the rest of the ranch (always where the house is, always inside same fence)

Does this have something to do with the taxes? Looked to see where G2 was exactly and saw that they are like

"Whitetail house" is owned by same people as what surrounds it

when that's the only water in the mile section you will have birds.

I'm not above putting out a blue tarp and dumping a bucket of water on it if things get worse.

I'll be sitting on a fence line under the tallest tree, on the edge of a corn field that is about 50 yards from a huge tank. That tank still probably has 1500 gallons of water in it, so all good there. It's deep. Last weekend I had 3 or 4 dozen swarming my while I was trying to land 5 or 6 massive perch and some dinky bass. I am not sure where our big bass went, although I bet they are still in there. I was only willing to walk about 25% of the way around. LOL

I'll be there Friday evening, Saturday evening, Sunday evening, and Monday evening. I only get up early nowadays for fish. Can't wait!

in the first pic I can tell you thats where the original land owners house used to sit and she leased it out for farming. I am pretty sure she fenced up the "yard" just to keep them from cutting through with tractors, etc. As a kid I remember going up and down 1582 and not hardly seeing a fence anywhere.......having to open gates is a pain in the ass for farmers.

PS the brushy spot between the new lodge and other mobile homes is where he keeps his giraffes now.

Some guys leasing at a neighbor's place a few years ago must have had something stupid like 50 decoys and 10 mojos in an area of about an acre. We had to catch our breath from laughing at that one. There were so many it would've made it hard to spot an actual live bird to shoot at.
