How long do you want to ignore this user?
I recently purchased a Holosun 507K for my X-Macro. Despite trying numerous settings to minimize power consumption, my sight drains a fresh battery in less than two weeks. I even tried turning the sight completely off while in storage, but the issue remains. I sent an email to Holosun technical support asking if I was doing something wrong, and, to my surprise, they didn't even try to answer my question. Instead, they sent me information on how to return the unit for warranty coverage.

Needless to say, I was a bit surprised by this. Has anyone else had a similar experience with Holosun pistol sights? I like the fit and function on my pistol, but the battery life is absmysmal. It would be nice if the battery at least lasted about a year.

As a side note, I'm also considering a Vortex Defender CCW as an alternate sight. Any opinions on that piece of equipment?

That is their MO, replace anything not working. I'm at a year with the 507k on my 365xl, I've replaced the battery once, but I leave it locked on a pretty bright setting.

Lol at a vortex red dot being a more reliable option.

The battery should last longer than two weeks, even at the highest settings.

They asked you to return yours because its clearly defective.

I have a 507k on my 365, and several other holosun products that have served me well. Would absolutely not swap to a vortex dot but thats just me.

Something is definitely wrong with the optic because even at max brightness it shouldn't drain the battery that fast. Send it in as they advise.

I would not suggest Vortex for any red dot. They know how to make scopes, but they still haven't figured out the formula for a good red dot.

The new Defender has several documented issues - the bottom third of the glass is unusable because of the design of the housing, the dot gets blocked; the dot has a noticeable flicker at several brightness settings, due to the refresh rate; etc.

There are several YouTube videos going over the issues.

To replace a 507k, I'd honestly look at another Holosun, the EPS or EPS Carry. It's their newest option, it's enclosed, and has gotten a lot of good reviews from guys in the industry I trust. Look up Sage Dynamics on YouTube if you haven't before, he is my go to for red dot reviews.

Or see if you can find one of the new Sig Romeo-X sights made for the 365. They may be tough to find for a bit since they were just released, but they look like a solid option.

Thank you all for the help. I guess I'll just send it in like they suggested. I'm hoping they can turn it around faster than the 15-20 business days they quoted. :/

Same here. No issues with my 507k battery life.

Sorry for your trouble OP, but I'd give it a second chance.

Just got the unit back from Holosun. I thought they would just replace it, but to my surprise, it looks like they repaired it as the serial number is the same. Guess I'll have to see if the battery life is better or not

I didn't see this thread when originally posted, but FWIW I started carrying with one of these back in May and had a dead battery by August. I check that the dot is functioning each time my holster goes on/off my waistband, and did not notice any warning signs (it is supposed to "blink slowly" when low). One day I made my weekly range trip and it was dead. Granted this was the stock Holosun battery; I've since replaced it with a "real" one and I am crossing fingers that was the sole culprit and I get a year out of it now. If this happens again I will probably ditch it entirely, I did not like the idea of it randomly failing in the event I actually need to use it in an emergency.

Well, I checked the 10-minute auto shutoff, and it appeared to work. I don't mind proactively changing the battery every six months if I can get at least 6 months runtime.

Been running the newer EPS Carry on my Macro. Love it and no battery issues, so far. My experience with holosun has been pretty damned good. So much so that there are three reddots that are usually around my shop: holosun, Sig Sauer (literally a guccied holosun) and Rudolph for a budget optic. Anyone that has had a problem with their units, and it has been very few, Holosun has been very, very good about fixing.
