I was thinking of spending a little more to purchase a quality trap thrower to use at our ranch. I'm tired of the one we have breaking targets and not throwing very far. Anybody have any experience with this brand? I think I'll get the trailer for it or whatever I end up with so I can just tow it behind the UTV.

MEC makes good trap machines. Most Skeet, Trap, and Sport Clays clubs use Promatic or LaPorte. Promatic makes a couple of models for the individual shooter, and LaPortes may also. Both brands are excellent and have excellent support.

Something to think about - if you are in Texas, make a trip down to the National Sporting Clays Championship in San Antonio October 21-29. There will be approximately 2500 shooters there and around 100 vendors. MEC, Promatic, and LaPorte representatives will be there. You can check them out and probably get a good deal on one. The best time to go is probably 26th-28th when most of the vendors are there. I do know that they set up hundreds of new clay throwers for the tournament, then sell them off afterwards. I know the owner of Reunion Ranch in Georgetown, and he bought several LaPorte throwers afterwards to replace some worn out Champion throwers. The LaPorte throwers were a significant upgrade to the Champion and can throw a target 100+ yards.

If you live on a farm, ranch, or have a large property where you throw your own targets......and have deep pockets, you might consider a claybot machine. With this device, you mount your clay thrower to it, then use the remote controls to drive it into the field, tilt it to throw the type of target presentation you want, and shoot! Some of the Claybots have large flotation tires where you can drive them over a swamp or pond. I have a friend that is a serious sporting clay shooter and bought a couple for his ranch.

Anyway, good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I'll check out the other brands. I'd like one that slings 100 yards.

Would you recommend getting a wobble base? This will be used just to get my son and his friends out shooting. Nothing too serious but that feature looks fun and maybe a little more of a challenge.

Get the wobble base. They are not that much extra but allow a lot more options of target presentation.

Thanks! That's what I was thinking.

I have an Atlas AT-250 wobble trap. Never an issue in 5 years and have thrown thousands of clays. I recommend it.

Thanks. I just spoke with the guys at Atlas and they were very helpful. It looks comparable to the MEC but I haven't had any luck with MEC answering their phone so I think I may just go with the Atlas like you have on a wobble base with the commercial cart.

Ordered. Looks like I'll have it in around 4 weeks.
