We are headed down to Rockport next week, which is fast becoming our favorite family vacation spot. So I'm looking at starting to pick up some rods/reels for mainly step son and I, but maybe the gals as well if I they take a liking to it.

We will probably primarily fish the piers but maybe head over to the bridge by Holiday Beach and do a little fishing from the banks over there as well.

What size/action rod should I be looking at? I have a big ass 9'+ rod that I bought for pier fishing up in Michigan for salmon that I figure will also suffice for coastal pier work as well.

For now would really prefer to keep it somewhat on the budget front since we just don't make it down near as often as we'd like.

Just fishing piers requires nothing special so go get you some Wally World specials of the spinning reel kind. They work great and if they fall in the water or break, you won't be pissed. Or you could call me and book a fishing trip.

If you own 7' bass rods with baitcast or spinning reels you should be good to go. Ten or 12 lb. mono will be fine.

Just hose them down after you're done

For spinning reel: 7' medium rod, 3000 or 2500 reel
