Need to find something to listen to on the 12 hour trip. Been through all the terminal list series already. Any recommendations?

John D. MacDonald Series - First book is "The Deep Blue Goodbye". Written in the 60s about a single guy who recovers stolen goods for people, splits half with them then enjoys retirement in Florida. Each book is about 8 hrs, well written, enjoyable easy stories full of action, sex, and 60's era rants about government and society.

Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield - Historical fiction novel about the battle of Thermopylae and the Spartan 300. Historically very accurate, great story and fun listen. Highly recommend. 15 hr listen.

Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer - Non-Fiction about 1996 Mt Everest disaster. 9 Hr listen

The climb by Anatoli Boukreev - Non-Fiction about the same disaster from one of the Sherpa's POV. Arguably a better book 9.5 Hr listen

Permanent Record by Edward Snowden - Non-Fiction about his backstory, reasoning and decisions leading up to his releasing of Top Secret Records. Easy listen and makes you want to throw away your phone and computer and live in the woods. 11.5 Hr Listen

Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin - Self Help book about leadership and management. Written by two Navy Seals that breaks down 10 or so rules too becoming a successful leader whether on the battlefield or in the office. I found it to be enjoyable to listen to and very accurate, but slightly redundant and repetitive. A must read for any person in a management position. 9.5 Hr Listen

The Immortal Irishman - Timothy Egan. Currently about halfway through this one. Story of a popular Irish speaker, who led a failed uprising against England, then banished to Tasmania, and escapes to America and fought in the Civil War. About 14 hours long.

If you enjoy WWII books:
Band of Brothers, With the Old Breed, Helmet for My Pillow

Westerns:
Lonesome Dove, Streets of Laredo, Dead Man's Walk, No Country for Old Men, The Son

The Hobbit and all the LotR books read by Andy Serkis.

How to Build a Car by Adrian Newey if you enjoy Formula 1 or are a car nerd.

Dune

The Harry Potter audiobooks are great if you have a kid in the car.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is enjoyable but I don't recommend the Game of Thrones books themselves because the guy that reads them is inconsistent in how he pronounces names.

Medium Raw and Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain.

Endurance by Alfred Lansing is about Shackleton's failed trip to the South Pole. Absolutely riveting with a great narrator.
I knew nothing about this event, remarkable story of survival, human will power & skill.
10 hour listen.

Outer space is really outdoors…I listened to The Hail Mary Project by David Weir and it was fantastic, and a 16 hour listen. Narrator did great and the author is the guy that wrote the Martian that had Matt Damon in it.

Second this. The Source (Israel), Alaska, Poland, Hawaii, Centennial (Colorado), The Covenant (South Africa) are his better ones IMO. Space, Caravans (Afghanistan), Texas, Chesapeake, and Mexico are so-so IMO. I have not read any of his WWII/Korean War/Vietnam novels (Tales of the South Pacific, The Bridges at Toko-ri, Sayonara, The Drifters). I need to read Caribbean.

Hawaii is around a 52 hour listen, but I just finished it and really enjoyed it.

If you like sci fi at ALL, Expeditionary Force by Craig Alanson narrated by RC Bray. It is the best. Columbus Day is the first of 15.

The Bobiverse books are also a good listen, by Dennis Taylor.

Download all the episodes of the Dan Carlin series "Wrath of the Khans"

Wrapping up a new audio book that I can't recommend enough by Peter Attia: "Outlive, The Science of Longevity"

True. But I speed them up to 1.3x speed. Cuts that 52hrs down to 40.

This will make the road trip go by in a blink. Listen to a sample first, might not be your thing.

The Dave Robicheaux series, especially those narrated by Will Patton.

The Joe Pickett series is good too.

If you do the audio books of the Ex Force series, don't make the mistake of getting/listening to "Homefront". It is not read by RC Bray, but "acted" by him, Zachary Quintero and a few others. In my opinion, it is not worth the time. I quit listening in Chapter 2.

Is Amazon the only audiobook game in town or are there other, better options?

Audible is another option.

Along the Terminal list line are the following
Dewey Andreas series by Ben Coes
Gray Man series by Mark Greaney
Scot Harvard series by Brad Thor

I've mostly used Audible but you can also use Libby which is connected to a library card. The app kind of sucks and the books can be hard to find. The big city public libraries like Harris county will give you a library card as long as you live in state.

Eye of the world by Robert Jordan. It's the first book in an epic series called the Wheel of Time. Please don't watch the Amazon travesty

Just find a book you're interested in....like 90% of then are available as audiobooks nowadays

Here are my favorite books of all time...

Lonesome Dove - McMurtry
Pillars of the Earth - Follett
Game of Thones - Martin
The Long Walk - Rawicz
We Die Alone - Howarth
Band of Brothers - Ambrose
Empire of the Summer Moon - Gwynne
Beneath a Scarlet Sky - Sullivan
The Winter Fortress - Neal Bascomb
In the Unlikeliest of Places - Berkovits

I just verified and they're all on Audible except the last one

If you're looking for long format podcasts, I second Hardcore History....would add New History of Old Texas and then also History on Fire

We have Scribd. $11/month, both ebook and audiobook selection are quite vast. App is easy to navigate also.

I do not like fiction in general but I love this book and have since elementary school. I have read it several times.
