Just a heads up that they're about a week early this year. I normally pick about 4th of July with some green ones still left. Most vines have no green ones and a bunch already shriveling.

Pop made Mustang grape wine just about every year. When it wasn't mustang grape wine it was agarita wine.

The grapes always make me think about my grandma. She always made the best jelly and one of my favorite things was just buttered toast with her jelly.

We started picking in Fayette county 3 weeks ago. 8 quarts of cooked down juice ready to make jelly when we need more. Muscadine jelly is my favorite.
Picking them always reminds me of picking with my grandpa back in the late '70s. He'd park his old dodge user a tree full of vines-take his hand held blade and cut vines until truck bed was full. We'd drive back to their house and pick off The vines under big shade tree that always had a nice breeze under it.

Confirmed in Austin county. Should be good on jelly for the year with some extra to give away.

I got about 10 cups of juice and fruit pulp after running through the mill. Should give me somewhere 12-16 jars of jelly once I go pick up some more supplies.

I threw all of the leftover mash into a pot with some water to let it simmer and reduce. Hoping it still has enough flavor after straining that I can make some simple syrup. I've never tried this, so no idea on what the results will be. I suspect that it won't have enough leftover acid to can it, so I'll plan to throw it in the freezer.
You could most likely throw in some citric acid to lower the pH and water can it then.

thanks for the reminder. I went out to my secret spot that I had mentally noted a year ago and picked a bunch (what I could reach).

I make wine out of mine but I like them a lot more ripe than in the op pics. Dark and sweet.

New to land ownership in Milam county. Anyone have a schedule as to when different berries and grapes are ready to pick?
