Picking up a Little Guy travel trailer on Friday. I've got a list of things to pick up. Some of the articles that I've read, suggested a surge protector, when plugging into a power source. I've hauled boats, cattle trailers, and a competition smoker / cooking rig -I'm fairly new at small travel trailers and I'm trying to cover all my bases.

I've always used a combination surge protector and adaptor from 30 amp to 50 amp on a 30 amp trailer.

Here is what we have for our travel trailer. I would agree that they are absolutely necessary. You never know how decent the wiring is at different places. We just finished a 3-week road trip through the Southeast pulling our trailer. Most places were ok, but did run into some electrical issues at a newer RV place. They ended up having to move people because it was backfeeding electricity into some RVs. The group next to us was feeling slight shocks when they would touch anything metal. It kept throwing breakers on our trailer. Ended up being ok, but I felt better having the surge protector.

We bought a small travel trailer last year. After some research, I bought the one below and have been happy with it.

30 Amp Bluetooth Surge Protector with Auto Shutoff - Portable - Hughes Autoformers

In addition to being a surge protector, it detects if there are any power spikes or low power situations. It will automatically disconnect your power until the power has been stabilized, then will automatically reconnect once the power is back to normal.

When you first plug it in to the shore power, it will perform a power diagnosis that only takes about 5-10 seconds. It can detect switched leads or bad grounds and will tell you what's wrong before you plug in your RV. Some of the other brands can take a couple of minutes to perform this.
The app is nice too because you can see how much power you are using in real time.

I ended up getting it on Amazon for about $175.

I will second everyone's recommendations to use a surge protector. I have a 33' class C RV so likely way more electronics onboard, but still.

I originally bought the $100 version but the mechanic that did our original walk-through at the dealer highly recommended buying the higher end version (I remember this being $300 a few years ago). And I would also buy the dog bone adapters too just to have. We use the 120V adapter at the house all the time to get the fridge cold before trips and to run the AC while loading/unloading/cleaning, and have had occasions where the 30amp plug at campgrounds looked sketchy so used the 50amp adapter to avoid it. Those are both cheap though.

I will agree that having the adapters can be helpful. We have the 110V for the house when it is here while we are loading and cleaning it. We also have the 30A to 50A adapter like they mentioned above. We've seen more use out of it than I anticipated.
