How long do you want to ignore this user?
Recently I've been wanting to get into documenting my hunting and fishing trips more. I've always been good about taking lots of pics on my iPhone but would like to step it up. I know very little about the photography world, but looking for camera/lens recommendations from those who also are into this! Thanks!

There is a 99 page Texags thread about any photography questions that could help you.

I think something like this would be perfect. The pics are pretty dang good but you don't have to worry about DSLR and diff lenses etc which can get pricey. This would have plenty of zoom capability. Get a nice tripod with a pan head. Or one of those arms if you hunt from a tree stand.

Canon Powershot SX70 20.3MP Digital Camera 65x Optical Zoom Lens 4K - Canon Powershot SX70 20.3MP Digital Camera 65x Optical Zoom Lens 4K Video 3-inch LCD Tilt Screen (Black) https://a.co/d/aL51R6D

For fishing if you do any wade fishing you prob would have to go with a go pro and get a chest or head strap for it. You can also get a gun mount for when you do wing shooting.

Wish I was wearing a go pro the other day. Was about to land a 17" trout in my wading net. Another MONSTER trout came up and hit him right in front of me.

GoPro on chest strap and an iPhone is my reco for documenting fishing expeditions.

Extra batteries and redundant cards and your set for most situations.

Depending on what and how you fish some accessories to mount GoPro on the boat or pole to extend it in water would be nice.

A small tripod would be handy to take GoPro selfies with a fish if no one is around to help.

iPhones take really great pictures and video these days. I have ditched the separate point and shoots I used to bring.

Someone on here takes fantastic pics with a sony dslr mirror less camera that will make you wanna go buy one but those just seem to big for me and what I want to haul around.

I take a Canon 850 and 2 lenses when I hunt, and it is a PITA most the time. But I have gotten some great shots of friends I hunt with along with some images I have printed on metal in my basement.

I agree to maybe start with mastering your iPhone and a GoPro would be a great start and then step it up from there. Living in CO, I spend the off season hiking and fishing and tote around the camera and lenses and recently stepped up to a Tamron 150-600mm VC USD AF and love it, but its a lot to carry.

I use a micro four-thirds camera from Olympus. I bought it for two reasons, portability and being weather sealed. It's compact and with a 24-80mm type lens, weight and bulk is a non-factor. With a 17mm prime, I'll almost forget I'm packing it around.

This capture clip from Peak Design was a game changer for me. You can screw it on to the shoulder strap of your ruck sack and clip the camera to it and it stays put. It has eliminated the need for me to carry a separate small shoulder bag. I can keep my cleaning kit/filters in my ruck. I can deploy the camera almost as fast as drawing a pistol from a holster. It will attach to a belt, also, if you don't carry a backpack.

I wouldn't want to pack a great big full frame camera this way, but the little m 4/3 is the camera I always have with me. That system is worth checking out if you value great portability and solid weather proofing. The image quality is great, as well.

I'd look around and see if you could find a nikon coolpix. I have the w300 from 2017ish. Easy to use, waterproof, and good battery.
