We are having to adjust our travel plans coming back from Alabama and are staying in Shreveport, what part of town should we be looking to stay in?

We always like staying at the Horseshoe Casino. (Haven't been there in about 10 yrs though, so it may have changed) it was always clean and you could stay the night, get some gambling in.

The Microtel in Bossier City, on the south side of the interstate shakes each time a train goes by. So, if that is your thing, go for it. Otherwise, try Margaritaville.

This. The Fairfield at i20 and 59 is fairly newly remodeled and I have stayed there many times.

Honestly this or Ruston. There are not many places I'd stop and stay in Shreveport. The only reason we go there is to visit my brother and his family. He's a Caddo Sherrif deputy and he sees all the stuff that goes on - it's not good. He's waiting for his retirement to become fully vested, then they are moving to Texas.

If you haven't been to Ruston, it's a fun little town - I'm a little biased, I did my undergrad at Louisana Tech. It has a great small town downtown with some good restaurants and a couple of nice hotels to stay at right off of I20.

I travel for a living and even though I have clients in Shreveport I never stay there. Very high crime. I usually stay in Longview on the northeast side. Hampton Inn and Garden Inn are my usuals there. Lots of good restaurants there as well.
Then I drive to Shreveport for my calls.
Over my 28 years when I did stay in Shreveport I had my truck broke into twice.
If all else stay in Bossier City.

I normally stay by the horse track, its cheaper than most places and away from the ghetto. Pretty open too so it is safer than staying downtown

There are a handful of decent hotels on the west side, off Pines Rd exit. There's a whole line of em, Courtyard Marriott, Hilton Garden Inn, Homewood Suites, Comfort Suites, LaQuinta. I have also stayed next to the airport (Hampton, Hi Express), they aren't as nice. I've never experienced any crime there, but this was a few years ago when I had a job site near there. YMMV

I remember a Justin Wilson story about one of his Cajun buddies who married a Yankee from WAY up north…she was from Shreveport.

The wife and I are going to Superior Steakhouse tonight. We stay at the Hilton in Shreveport every so often. It's ok. I hear Margaritaville is pretty nice

I'd recommend Ruston as well. Like Rally-cap, I went there for undergrad and had a rather large time. It's got some decent places to eat and its usually a quiet little north LA town. Ponchatoula's is a pretty good spot to eat, but there are some other good places as well. If you have to stay in Shreveport, I'd recommend one of the casinos, like Margaritaville (Bossier) or Sams Town. I wouldnt stay west of North Market. Superior is a fixture- good margaritas.

I have to go to Bossier way too often for work. Will have to check those recommendations. I've been told about Superior but haven't had time to go.

We live about 45 minutes from Shreveport. We go to Superior every few months for a date night. It's always been excellent

The Oyster Bar down the street from Superior is also a great place to eat. Mexican and Seafood. The Discovery Sci Port is a great place to take kids if you have some time to kill.

Agree on the Oyster Bar. Also, people love Superior's Mexican restaurant. It's ok. I think people mostly love the margaritas. They will get you lit Fo Sho

Two Johns Steakhouse is also very popular, although I prefer Superior

We have stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bossier when visiting relatives. The hotel isn't bad. We did not have any problems. That doesn't mean I felt comfortable about our car in the lot. We leave nothing in the car. We have stayed in Ruston as well. It was a pretty new Holiday Inn Express.

The crime thing is a real problem. The last time I went bar hopping in Shreveport (about 17 years ago), when we left out of the bar, I stepped literally into a crime scene. We turned on our phone lights on a dark porch and there was blood everywhere. There was a shirtless dude sitting in the middle of the road covered in blood with cop cars surrounding him. Apparently he had just stabbed someone right where we were standing.

If you're coming back from Alabama, you could stay in Natchitoches. It's a neat little town. Lots of charm

I don't even like leaving my truck at the airport. Lately I just have my dad drop me off. I don't think I've ever spent a night there since it's so easy to retreat back to Tx.

Their Mexican restaurant is legit, can vouch for that.
