I'm seeing an SP5 pistol for $2400. I don't really need another PCC but I've been wanting one. Tell me how the cons outweigh the pros. I need y'all to be true friends and convince me not to buy it.

Unless you have to have HK, which I totally understand, you can get a clone for less than half of that.

If you get a pistol, go ahead and plan on and get the process started to SBR it. Because you will want to.

If you don't have a suppressor that is 9mm capable, plan on that as well. Because you will want to.

I'd advise you to really think about what you want, because the MP5 platform isn't conducive to garage gunsmithing like the AR is. Mods take a lot of work, time, patience and precision. Maybe some cussing. Quite possibly grinding all of your welds off and starting over because you didn't get it just right. More than once.

Once you figure out what you really want, get that at the start. Even if it means waiting longer for the overlords to approve things and spending more up front. Trust me, it is far more expensive to do work after the fact than it is to let the factory do it and buy it up front.

But they are hella fun, still one of the best platforms out there IMO and absolutely nothing brings up some old school 80's and 90's nostalgia like the MP5 platform, whether it is SEAL, Die Hard or pretty much any action flick most of us grew up on where guys killed everything possible with a 9mm that almost never needed to be reloaded.

I'm still not done with mine. Either a Timney trigger pack or preferably a FA binary will complete my 15 year long build. One of these days.

Agreed.

This is what I did and got two MKE built Turkish clones for the price of one real H&K.

If you're a collector or may sell in the future, 100% buy the SP5. If you have tons of $$, buy the SP5. Im sure its better built.

Since I just enjoy shooting, I have no regrets going with the MKEs. Ive done run and guns, steel challenge and general fun shooting with them and both the full size and K have been reliable and fun. H&K did help the Turks set up the factory and they make good clones.

So if i did this, I would SBR it. And I have 4 9mm cans so what I'm really looking for here is you guys to tell me to buy it. That's it's an awesome gun to shoot and it's a classic. I need the push so I can tell my wife that I was peer pressured into it when I really didn't think we needed another PCC.

Buy it. It's an awesome gun to shoot and a classic. She'll even like it too, especially with a can on it.

Plus, you can tell her it automatically makes you a certified operator, and that has to count for something.

Yep. I dont know if OP has shot an MP5 before (just assumed he had if he was SP5 shopping).

It is hands down the smoothest, best recoiling PCC you can shoot and I've shot almost all of them.

My full size suppressed will be the first gun other than a .22 that my boys shoot.

That kind of thinking is how you end up with 6 of them.

You might want to hunt out a .40 or 10mm build. They have last round bolt hold open. It's a kludgy system, but it works, I've always wanted to rebarrel my .40 to 10mm. I think that would be a fun platform.

I'm really surprised the aftermarket hasn't built an add on for 9mm guns that use the .40 BHO parts. I think all of the gun side parts (axle tube, springs, button, and BHO axle) should work based on the receiver dimensions. Only thing that would have to be redesigned would be the magazine follower

Full size MP5 clone - Turkish made MKE (Century Arms AP5 import) (SBR'd to allow stock installation because our laws are dumb)
A3 Collapsable stock
Aimpoint red dot (or clone thereof)
Surefire forearm with light
Navy SEF trigger housing
3 lug barrel adapter for cans

Rattle can paint job (because it's bender and he's a grafitti can spray master)

How'd I do Bender?

Schmelba got almost everything, txyaloo got the ambi safeties.

Its an aimpoint pro on a B&T rail in a low aimpoint mount.

Also has a flashhider mounted on the trilug since my pistol cans are still in ATF purgatory.

Rattlecan paint job, green base then tan and brown sprayed over the top of a cut up mesh laundry bag. Less of a master, more of a nutjob but yeah I rattlecan most of my guns.

Heres a current pic, some of the paint is wearing off now after I shot it at a night time run and gun.

And how I had it set up for run and gun with NV: midwest industries rail, steiner cqbl, echo arms light body mount, surefire vampire head.

Update: the sale ended up being a one day only sale at the range by the house and when I went to get I yesterday, the last Sp5 they had just sold. But the sales guy said he could order one at the same price, it just wasn't sure how long it would take. For that price, I can wait. So I went ahead and bought it. All thanks to your enabling, I mean help.

Now I need to buy some extra mags and figure out a stock…

The FA binary is ridiculously easy to install in these. I can do it in about five minutes. So much fun and they run like a scalded ape!

I may have to take you up on that. I've been looking at collapsible stocks but reviews say the lack of a cheek weld is a major complaint. I want to stay compact so maybe a folding stock would work? I have no idea when mine will show up so i have some time to figure it out. Three new mags just showed up today, though. So I have that going for me, which is nice.

I would stay away from collapsible. They look cool but as you said, the cheek weld isn't good.

The B&T folders are awesome though

Man I hope so. I've never even shot one. Haha. But people I know and trust say it's so much better an experience shooting it suppressed than my current suppressed Space Invader system, which I enjoy (except the gas to the face).
