My oldest son recently got into fishing hard and he's caught several types of fish but seems obsessed now with getting a carp.

Where are some of the best places right now with some decent sized carp in the area?

I haven't fished carp since I was a little and had to relearn hair-rigging. Used to fish them in Big Lake park in Plano as a kid but I haven't had any luck there recently.

Pretty much any body of water up there is going to have too many of them.

Toss out a few handfuls of canned corn to chum 'em up.

Ok, thanks. Do I need to do that any particular time before we fish or just chum with corn and then toss out the hair rig into it?

Just chum and throw in a small hook with a few kernels of corn on it. I'm partial to using a slip float to keep it just off the bottom.

Not familiar with a hair rig so no help there.

Corn flake balls soaked in Big Red. It's also a cooking/science project.

Mom will love it!

This x10. I have caught countless carp on corn flakes and big red. This is a great way.

Just come over to any waterfront restaurant on lake Granbury with a basket of French fries and a dip net.

Ive tried corn with no luck maybe they weren't around at the time? Had good luck by chumming with range cubes for a day ahead of time and then bridleing one onto a small strong hook. Set out 3-4 lines in your chummed up area. Should be hooked up in 10 minutes if they're home.

Highly underrated.

Historical Note: The German Brown Carp was the first game fished stocked by the Republic of Texas, so there's that!

6wt fly rod and sight fishing is the way to go. Ray Roberts is loaded.

I met a guide with a 20' Chittum at an event in Rockport. He will bulk book in multiple days around there. He pulls his boat down from around Sanger and then back home. A lot of his business was fly fishing for carp at Ray Roberts. I don't remember the name.
