Thats a nice boat.

A real apocalypse rig.

Thats as close to self sufficient as you can get for the cheapest possible price you can get. If we go mad max next few years somebody is gonna be on easy street with a boat like this.

That boat is max amount of freedom you can get for the least amount of money.

You could live indefinitely on that kind of boat. You got solar. You can sit at anchor indefinitely. You get a good water maker on there and you could anchor out for a long time. Statring the generator once a day for a few minutes burns very little fuel.

Bluewater sailing is a steep learning curve though. It takes years to make a skilled blue-water sailor with a boat that size.

I'd think you'd need a crew of four for an ocean crossing.

You on the west coast with that thing. You can see some amazing sights. Somebody is gonna have an experience of a lifetime with that rig.

Exactly and would definitely need a crew of 3-4 at least to operate. Overall, I think my dad bought too much boat for his level of experience. He will be sad to see it go but it's a must at this point.

I can't help but think that having the boat on the west coast (where he lives) would make it a quicker sale. Something to think about but ideally, we can find a buyer down in Mazatlan.

If you think you can get more for it on the West coast, may be worth moving it. I have an uncle that retired from his law practice a few years ago and does this now for a partial retirement gig. Sails boats on one way trips. Actually seems like a pretty fun way to make a little bit of extra cash.

I believe that's a ketch?
Well we might as well give up and run

So, basically, you need a captain (whomever buys it) and a crew of 6+ scantily-clad women?
Well, okay then

You might check into listing with PopYachts.

Somebody might jump on that that as a live aboard on the west coast. But from what I understand, live aboard slips anywhere on the west coast are in high demand and theres a waiting list to get in one. So you might be seeing some resistance on that front, but moving it somewhere else would cost money.

Yeah, it would be quite expensive to move it to the Bay Area. My dad thinks the price is at the sweet spot, currently. We shall see..

I follow a couple on Youtube that made a deal on a catamaran on the west coast. The deal fell through because there was not a single marina with a slip within 1000 miles. They had no where to store it and could not immediately move aboard.

"1982 Hardin Voyager 45

Designed in the 1970s and built well into the 1980s by Taiwan boat-building pioneer Bill Hardin, the Hardin 45 Voyagers are well-crafted built-to-last vessels. An extremely rugged, heavy displacement staysail ketch designed for live-aboard cruising in safety and style, 'Voyagers', as the term suggests, were made for smooth passage-making and comfort. About 160 Hardin 45s were built. Consequently, they are now sought after boats, well on their way to becoming classics. One might say they are the high seas equivalent of the venerable British Motors Land Cruisers."

Not to nit pick here but is it like a Land Rover or a Toyota Land Cruiser?

Price dropped to 95K. Dad is considering moving the boat to the Bay Area if it doesn't sell soon. Trying to determine if that's a good move or not.
