My younger brother is in town for business and i'm taking tomorrow off to take him fishing on our kayaks. This will be his first time saltwater fishing that i'm aware of and i'm hoping to put him on some fish. For those familiar with the area, where would you suggest we drop in with current conditions?

I'm most familiar with Lighthouse Lakes, B&R, Packery channel park, and Wilson's cut. I was leaning towards LL or B&R but I've heard AP and Rockport got a ton of rain the last few days while Corpus and south missed most of it. I'm wondering if all the freshwater around AP might throwoff the bite.

Anyway, appreciate any insight and thanks in advance for any advice.

Keeping an eye on the weather as well. I am thinking of heading down Wed evening and fishing through the weekend. We will see if I can get away that long.

Put in at Wilson's cut and fish the shamrock cove and surrounding area. Popping cork and shrimp if you wanna do live bait easy for drifting in the kayak.

If you really want to go south, or I would put in at bird Island and fish the spoils south of there if it is not too long of a paddle. Or fish the spoils just north of bird Island between there and nighthawk.

I have been 5 or 6 times this year. Weather has been very difficult. About three plus weeks ago I had two friends from east Texas show up with their crappie skills for three days. I always start out in Brown & Root. I normally try to fish the pipeline if you know what I am talking about but it proved was very difficult with the wind. The one that could cast caught four keeper reds the first day. All of those were caught in the south west corner of B&R. The other guy struck out. His best cast was a good 15 yards when he released the line on the swing back.

Ursusguy......You can cast better than him....

Before we headed in I went in the Lighthouse Lakes. It only had about one foot of water in it. When it has water in it I will fish south west of Big Slough first and then south east of it.

The next morning I took them to Sand Lake which is way too far for a kayak. Better friend caught three and the other guy caught one. His was 29" plus.....the biggest one we caught. They want to come back next spring. He promised to practice casting.

We were blown out the third morning.

We're going to put in at Wilson's Cut. I've been to bird island but only by boat and didn't want to try a new area with a kayak with him. Will have to give it a try another time.
