I'm in the market for a TSA approved case that will fit two shotguns. Any suggestions?

If you want to go cheaper, look at this one:

Plano All Weather Tactical Gun Case, Black with Pluck-to-Fit Foam, Watertight & Dust-Proof Shield Protection, Airline Approved https://a.co/d/7ZXBcHj

Cabelas also has a pelican knock off that I have molded for one of my rifles:

https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/cabelas-armor-xtreme-lite-double-long-gun-case

Then if you want the best, look at pelican cases.

I have flown with the first two, mostly with rifles but 2 times with a shotgun. Just make sure you use your own locks and NOT TSA ones on the case, despite what some people will tell you. Oh and keep the list of airlines policy and TSA policy printed and in your case to cover you if an idiot TSA person shows up. This has saved me once or twice.

Good luck!

Harbor freight actually has some pretty solid gun cases. I think I got mine on a sale for $99. It is comparable to my pelican in overall construction, but maybe less attention to detail on waterproof gasket.

I have a Plano hard case i got several years back. Think i got it at Academy. Built lke a tank, has wheels built into it and a handy pressure relie valve that i thought was dumb until i tried to open it at 9k feet after closing it up at sea level.

It will hold 2 shotguns easily, have also done a scoped rigle and a shotgun.

And second above with absolutely NO on TSA locks. Get your own, not uncommon for things to happen to guns when others can easily access them when they ae behind closed doors and out of your sight.

This. I had a big fight with TSA about this in Kansas. They cannot open it out of your site. We ended up on the phone with DC.

Edit: the Apache from HF great for the money.

When it comes to handing an obviously a gun case to TSA I have to go with Pelican. Their Vault line is a little more affordable and high quality too if budget is a concern.

Also echo the comment get high quality locks only you can get in (keyed or combo) not TSA locks. I bring a printout of this page (but haven't needed it). https://www.tsa.gov/travel/transporting-firearms-and-ammunition. Relevant text "You may use any brand or type of lock to secure your firearm case"

Cool cases, gotta love the tactical violin case.

Note: I am told that TSA has a rule that, if your case has say 5 places for a lock, then there must be 5 locks on it, not 4. If there are 6, then it must have 6 locks, not 5.

Anyone is welcome to check my math on this. I've only flown with handguns so I haven't had this issue. I heard its a bit arbitrary, meaning the dude that X-rays your case can say that all of the locks must be on there etc etc.

There is nothing worse than someone with just a little bit of authority, and an airport an hour before your flight isn't the time/place to get into an argument with a government bureaucrat.

Anyone else heard of this?

No. But they have to be tight enough where you cannot touch the gun.

I fly with 2 extra locks and an extra gun lock. Redundancy is encouraged when dealing with the best and brightest of the TSA

I have had to send someone for 2 additional locks before, because the genius behind the counter told me every spot for a lock had to have a lock on it. I have also had agents open all the latches and try to shake my rifle out of the case without removing the locks, and i have had a case come out the carousel (not the office...just the carousel with skis and golf bags) with the latches flapping loose and only the locks holding it closed. Keep that in mind if you like to pack mags/bolt or rangefinder, binocs etc in the same case.

Some good info on here, mainly about handguns.

Southwest employees are usually pretty good about checking firearms, never seen one freak out about it. Biggest issue is having to wait in line for full service with people that haven't flown since pre-9/11 or that have 20 pieces of luggage.

Yes. I had to buy a lock from one of the airlines in Denver because i had 2 locks and not 3 on my case.

TexAgs style... Negrini, lots of higher end shotguns come in these cases. Mine has made dozens of trips with lots of connections to smaller planes and is still going. I hadn't heard the "every spot needs a lock" rule but I do know that they expect a gun case to be locked in a manner that prevents someone from prying the case open and slipping their hands in the case to remove a weapon. Also, never use TSA locks, you are the only one that is supposed to be able to open the case.

I just use the smaller size master locks, has worked just fine. Combo or key, your call.

Master Lock Covered Aluminum Padlock with Key, Black, 4 count (Pack of 1) https://a.co/d/errvoVX
