Have a five year old deck. Starting to show a little wear. Is pressure treated. Want to seal it and not have to do it again for a while. Don't mind doing myself or contracting out. Looking for product suggestions. TIA.

I just had a deck built and my plan was Thompsons water seal. Unless there is something better?

TWP or Sikkens. Both are more than the box store stuff, but most of those aren't worth much. You want something that's water and UV protectant.

We use Australian timber oil, which is great, except you have to reapply every year.

Lots of folks who have log or timber homes swear by TWP.
I have used it on the wood of our horse stalls and it's the best of anything we have used in the past.

Make sure to use TWP100 and not the low-VOC 400 stuff. The 100 is illegal in California and about half of the other states, so it's got that going for it. Mask up and enjoy!

I used Ready Seal on mine. It's a penetrating oil based stain. It works very well, but needs to be reapplied every couple of years.

TWP 100. Thompson's sucks. TWP is buy once, cry once, until you realize how long it lasts and your not wasting your time with constant reapplications.

We did Ready Seal on our deck at the coast and it's held up well

This is the way. I stain a lot of fences & decks as a side gig and Ready Seal is the best store bought product out there. Just make sure you pressure wash and let the wood dry before applying.

Concur on TWP I get 7-10 years depending on what wood and location in the sun.

Whatever you do, stay the hell away from Thompson's. Did my fence with it a few years back. The only thing I got out of it was my fence wasn't the standard gray color that weather exposed wood turns over time and was the stain color of the Thompson's I used.

Other than that, it was essentially useless and did nothing to actually protect the wood from water damage.
