My young red oak is being decimated. It's leaves are turning crinkled and brown. We noticed these flying bugs all over it. I can't say I have seen them before. Now I want pay back.

Besides a flame thrower, what will work best for instant death.

Or perhaps they are innocent and I have another problem.

That's the damage they do. Stabbing the plant and transmitting diseases.
Id spray the tree with any topical application pesticide.

Maybe it's an exciting beetle

As mentioned. It is a Sharpshooter. You need a systemic pesticide for any tree that is ornamental.

I actually find them interesting and entertaining.

That's a broad headed sharpshooter but I doubt it is doing that to your oak. They drink sap but don't usually make leaves wilt like that. Most common insecticides kill them.

You might have oak wilt and if that's the case, say goodbye to your red oak because it kills them super fast. Matter of months for them vs years for live oaks a lot of the time.

3 things I just did:

I sprayed down the tree with Spectrum

I sprinkled down BioAdvanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed

I upgraded my Nokia flip phone


If it does have Oak Wilt, these things won't matter. But I get a new phone out of the deal.

Can't nuke them. It was already pointed out they have a nuclear symbol on their back, so they are resistant. Might have to try fire or poison.
