I'm not a Python collector, but I've seen prices at gun shows higher than this for more common variations in worse condition. Asking price doesn't seem unreasonable to me as a casual observer.

It seems absolutely ridiculous to me, and I don't understand it at all. However, there are people in this world that spend tens of thousands so dollars on…a watch….yep…a device worn on the wrist to tell, you guessed it, the time…..

When you put it in perspective, the old worn Colt for 3k seems pretty reasonable.

The snub nose pythons get a pretty good premium, same for the cobras. They're less common. I'm pretty sure you could find a 4" or 6" python for less than this.

I have been collecting Colt Snake guns for a few years......buying and trading to obtain good collectible specimens and varieties. The Python market is unique as it has basically come down to strickly being a collectible item. For this reason the collector is looking for making the best investment for his dollar.... so the real premium condition guns ( NIB, or Very Fine with Boxes and Papers ) are the preferred item for collectors. Few folks purchase older Pythons as shooters unless the guns have been used and worn enough that it brings the prices down to warrant shooting them rather than pure collectability.
The recent reintroduction of the new current production Pythons has changed that "shooter" market as now a "reasonably" priced new Python can be had for the guy who wants to take one out and use it and shoot it. This is causing the market of older Pythons that are shooters, (guns with wear and use, no boxes or docs, holster wear, etc.) to decline somewhat over the last couple of years.
The 2.5" barreled specimen that the OP is selling is worth a premium over the 4" and 6'' versions of that year production basically due to the rarity of the number of 2.5" versions that were produced.
OP's gun has some holster wear and definitely shows some minor use for its age. A nice gun. To bad it does not have the box and docs but is still worth $3000.00 or just south of that a little for sure. Just my oppinion.

I love revolvers, but I am a cheapskate. I will probably buy a Ruger GP 100 later this year in .357 magnum. I just wish the market offered an updated version of the IMI Timberwolf pump action rifle in .357. Uberti versions of the old Colt Lightning are uber-expensive and a 4 inch revolver can pretty much do it all.

I just went to the Weinemacher show in Tulsa to look for an 8". I found two 2.5" Pythons with boxes. One appeared unturned and still had the cosmoline plastic wrap and all the original docs. It belonged to a Colt collector I trade some with. He had it on the table for $5100.00.
The other one was in the box with papers but had been turned but looked unfired.
It was on the table for $4995.00
The guy that was my friend did not sell his. The $4995.00 one got sold..... but do not know what it actually went for.
ETA: They were both E prefix serial number guns and built prior to 1969.

I think Gunny is right on the mark with prices. I have some shooter pythons and I trade them in the $2500 range these days. I'll be back in the US mid month and will check and see if this one is still available.

I keep thinking of getting a Kimber .357.

Man I am much obliged but I am looking for a standard one instead of a hunter. I was an idiot and messed around too long on one that was in the box with papers last year and it sold for $3700.00. I can kick myself in the butt.
