He greeted me at the gate when I pulled up this morning. Neighbors said he showed up a few days ago but nobody knows from where. Super sweet. Seems to listen well. No tags or chips. Found near hwy 6 and 2154. He'll be going to aggieland humane society if nobody wants him.

Sometimes you can tell a dog is going to be good and loyal just by looking at him. This guy is one of those. I sure hope he finds a good home.

If I didn't already have a dog and three kids, id keep him. He followed me all around while I worked on some stuff. Just got done sharing a couple gas station fried burritos and chicken tenders. He was all manners while waiting.

What a beautiful dog. Wow. I've never been a dog person but this one temps me.

I agree. Good dog from a loving home. Someone is missing it. We were visiting my aunt out in a semi country area and our dog got out. We had to leave town without it. Luckily someone who found him posted signs and my aunt saw them. We drove back immediately.

Would bet real money at least 1/4 GSD... that is more than likely going to be a great dog. Can't believe someone's not out looking for it.

Did the OP contact the pound/animal control yet to see if someone's looking for him?

Take him to Aggieland Humane before offering him on here. Aggieland will post them and hold them for 72 hours to see if someone claims him before putting him up for adoption.

Several years ago, we adopted our pointer mix. We wanted a dog that was good with kids and liked to play fetch. We took him out to the play area, threw the ball and he returned it every time.

He seemed like a good fit so we adopted him. Next day, I take him out to the backyard and threw the ball. He just looked at me and layed down. It was like getting married again.

Luckily, he is a good dog but he sure played us to get adopted.

Just dropped him at aggieland humane if anyone is interested.

I didn't post signs but did keep an eye out.

We made the rounds today. He covered a couple miles checking deer feeders.

No judgment on it (the OP did more than most would do) but that shelter looks like they are overwhelmed, they take in hundreds of animals a month and have to euthanize several dozen some months. Heck it looks like they have 54 adoptable dogs right now.
So I hope someone either claims him or adopts him quickly. Seems like too good a dog to fall through the cracks.

I'm far from the dog expert that the rest of you guys are, and I've told this story on here before, but my Grandfather had a GSD/black lab mix that was the best dog I've ever seen. I'm a huge fan of the GSD, but that dog was something special. He not only did everything my GF told him to do, he did everything I told him to do! All my GF had to do was yell his name and he instinctively knew what to do.

Maybe it was one in a million but if I had to have a mix, it would be something along that line.

The dog didn't put the collar on himself.

I'd put up some signs. He just got loose, he likely lives close by somewhere.

I don't trust chips anymore. We found a dog a while back and the vet said there was no chip. Somehow we found the owner and they confirmed the dog DID have a chip.

If the owner gave a damn, the dog would have a tag on it. And had a chip. And put out their own signs. And be checking the shelters. I talked to everyone nearby and the only thing we could conclude was that it had been around for a few days. Its an area where people love to exit hwy 6, pull over, take a break, throw all the trash out of their car, etc. My guess is it was dumped.

You're welcome to go make signs if you like.

Lots of college kids dump their dogs around cstat. Some of the best looking mutts in the state are around college campuses.

This .. that dog has been taken care of .. he ran off and got lost .. I would foster him a little while and put up some signs .. someone will call you missing him

I knew animals were way smarter than you.

After being in the foster business for about a year now, it's upped my level of hatred for people which was already abnormally high. Dumping dogs or neglecting them is worse than criminal. Some of the sweetest, coolest dogs have come through and plenty that are cowering, nervous basket cases. But they do rebound quickly and that's what you have to love about dogs.

Animal control murdered my dog same day they got him (on Memorial Day - holiday, they were "closed") because he didn't have a chip. This was years ago and he was old - before chips really became a thing. They also lied about it.

Is there a local paper you could put a 'Lost/Found' notice in?
Wish I could take him. He looks like an absolute "love".

There is usually a lost and found section on craigslist. I would post up the pics there, and let them know their sweet pup has been taken to the pound. I bet they see it and respond.

Last time a used dog showed up at our place, craigslist had the owner contacting me in about 2 hours. The doggie was sure happy to see his human!
