Just a random post, but as I head out hog hunting this afternoon, I want to express the thanks to the OB board for the recommendation. It's slowed the hogs down enough to reliably catch them at predictable points without spending too much $.
I've learned to use the cheaper PVC (thinner, not Sched 40) and not drill too many holes (it depends on how trained the hogs get but initially it may take a dozen holes but once they get familiar with them, maybe 5 or 6 holes is fine. Also 1/2" holes are too small for the corn kernels, so I use 5/8 or 9/16". They can last for days or even a couple weeks before refilling. Make sure to use a swivel connector to the chain to allow the pipe to easily roll. I also dropped a sleeve of PVC over the t-post and drove it into the ground enough so that the chain easily rotate around the t-post.
It's allowed me to cheaply place (and move) many around our ranch and easily have predictable activity in locations that I can better (attempt) to chisel down the population whilst having some fun.
