If you're driving up this weekend or next week, be careful once you hit the high country. See map below for estimated snowfall totals through next Saturday.
Red Line = Dry Line

You can monitor the roads here and even look at real time camera footage to show you the level of Gnar.

Awesome- heading to Pagosa this weekend. Surely they'll have the highways groomed by the time we roll I to town Sunday afternoon.

Saturday into Sunday is supposed to be the heaviest snowfall but Pagosa is supposed to be pretty dry. It's the mountains around Pagosa that will be a **** show. For instance, you may not be able to get to WC from Pagosa until Monday.

Last heavy snowfall WC pass was closed for almost 2 days.

Snow has started in Durango. Passes will definitely be impacted and 14-20" of snow is predicted at Purg. Check out this guy for local weather info (and road closures). Durango isn't expected to get much snow in town, too warm!

Raining like a SOB in Hayden. About to make the trek home. Will be funny to see rain, then snow, rain, then snow again as I make my way west into the storm.

12-15 inches here overnight. 6 hours currently from Denver to here. Down south looks like a total **** show.

If it was me, I wouldn't even try to make it in from the south or east until this storm passes. Id find the closest town to the dry line and park it. Last thing you want is getting caught on a pass. Supposed to keep snowing through tomorrow at noon between the state line and Purg/Telly. Otherwise it should mostly pull through sometimes later today and begin to clear.

Just to put things into perspective, I'd love to go skiing today at Snowmass but I don't know if I'll be able to get there on 82 and it's only 34 miles from the house.

Roads are a total **** show. Please be careful driving today.

Update: I-70 is completely closed eastbound in several places and is down to one lane in several other places between the high country and Denver going westbound. It'll probs close here too once more people try to head this way.

550 is completely snow covered and wind blown from Ridgway to Silverton. Please monitor cotrip before making the move and DO NOT USE GPS TO REROUTE YOU - know the main route and ancillary routes before you leave! You will not have cell service in the high country when going through the worst passes and if you do and your phone GPS moves you onto an unplowed or closed up ahead CR, you're toast.

550 from Silverton to Electra Lake both directions closed for safety concerns due to weather.

145 closing at 8 am for maintenance work.

Which part of 145? N or S of Placerville?

Depending on where, that's gonna make either getting in from Montrose impossible or crush the detour from the south even worse into Telly.

Thanks!

It's gonna be soo sick out! I'm heading into Vail after yoga. I don't want to drive the canyon but 70 looks better than 82 and I have a parking spot in Vail. I have a feeling the free parking at snowmass is gonna fill before I'd get there and no way am I paying Aspen parking prices.

Enjoy your day! I'm taking out the 191 Mana 3.0s. No better day for 112s. Honesty wish I had some 116-122s but oh well.

Checkout the Snowmass snow cam - talk about totally ****ed…

That's gonna make the detour a LONG way outta the way. That's gonna mean 160 to 491 through Cortez to 141 to 145. No thanks on that 3-4 hour detour.

Ok, total newb here - was trying to drive from Denver to Steamboat on Sunday midday.

(Arriving in Denver tonight)

What's the best guess on when the roads are more passable? I'm assuming I should get chain on the tires of the van in Denver tomorrow AM?

Advice appreciated

A weeklong snow event on the week we list our house in Pagosa, yeah!!! Just had to try and stick it to me one more time, didn't you, mountains?!?!

On the plus, maybe people won't be able to go skiing and will be forced to shop real estate instead… (pipe dream)

You can check the COTrip map to see cameras, and when the snow plows are out. It shows you where the trucks are real time. That will give you a great idea of when the roads are passable.

Don't just put chains on for highway travel the whole way (sorry if I misunderstood you). You only use them if and where they are specifically needed (such as a pass with chain law). 4 wheel drive and good all season or 3 peak tires will get you where you need to be, and if they don't (and you would need chains), you probably don't need to be driving outside of an emergency. Im not trying to be offensive, but if you aren't experienced you don't need to be out on the passes in this. Even if you are, you likely still don't. I have lived up here (Pagosa) for 7 years, never once owned or used a pair of chains.

Just my gentle advice.

It's passing through by the afternoon. Tomorrow won't be a problem north of 70.

Current & 6pm tonight

550 now closed from Electra Lake to Ouray. No real change from earlier they just extended the closure to more highway over RMP.

We have a ton of that super heavy wet snow here in Pagosa. Just making everything a soupy horrendous mess. Too wet to use a snow blower. I gotta get it moved one soul sucking heavy shovel full at a time.

We are covered in snow at our pagosa house. We are at 8100 feet and have been dumped on last couple of days. Closer to town it is very slushy. Paved roads are wet and clear.

Thanks

I didn't ask my question well the first time, but timing was the majority of my question.

The link is awesome and shows the plows have been regular on my route - which is almost all highway.

I'll still grab the chains as an insurance policy. I've never had to use them - so hopefully that streak will stay intact.
