Any BGE owners use the Kick Ash Basket? I'm thinking I'm going to pull the trigger. I'm in Colorado so I could use some help with air flow!

Also, anyone use their other accessories, like the Can or Divider?

TIA

No clue what this is or does

Sounds like a solution in search of a problem. Not that difficult to empty the ash out.

I have the Kick Ash basket and the PSWoo/sliding rack.

The basket is nice for shaking ash/small stuff out when reusing big lumps, but it does reduce the area of direct heat since coals aren't getting but an inch or two from the sides of the fire ring now.

The Woo and sliding rack are real nice, especially if you already have the egg deflector stone.

Kick ash basket is great. I haven't used any of their other stuff but the basket is way better than the standard egg bottom.

Get one. Never thought about elevation being an issue for grills until trying to get a friend's Egg hot in Vail. Yes, it was cold, but it took FOREVER.

Have it. Love it.

I don't see the need as the fire grate seems to work well enough with mine.

The grate works fine, but there are benefits to the basket:

better air flow
easier to clean ash
shake the basket to get rid of ash before lighting the next fire
dump the used charcoal into a chimney to start the next fire; put new lump in the bottom of the egg

There is another method of dealing with charcoal ash:

Easier than stirring the old, un-burnt lump before adding new and vacuuming it after every 3rd cook or so?

If so, I might just take a look at one.

I think so. Especially if you are getting the Egg ready for a long smoke- get the new big chunks on the bottom for better air flow. Never tried a vacuum.

I didn't spring for the upgrade until my original grate burned through. Both work.

I feel like a kick ash basket is one of the first accessories anyone should get with BGE. It's so much easier to clean up and I'm convinced the basket improves air flow.

One more +1 for the basket and can. Much easier cleanup for me and I feel like I can hold a temp more consistently.

amazingly there are competitors for half the price- that get this- hold the lump in the exact same position

Got one and love it. Way hotter fires when I want em and more airflow and smoke when going indirect. Just my observation.

It's not the emptying out that's the issue, it's small pieces that clog up the holes during a cook that's the issue. I switched to one in my KJ a couple years ago and am very happy that I did. Comes up to temp faster, better temp hold, and much easier to clean.

Anyone have the eggspander kit or a generic they like?

Counterpoint. I had one in my bge in Colorado. Our house was at 8100 feet. I found it harder to get a fire going and harder to regulate. Took it out and it got better. Still hard due to elevation.
