Over the holidays I purchased a Smith & Wesson M&P45 M2.0 as discussed on a previous thread.

Now, I am looking for a light to mount on it. This will not be for Concealed Carry but primarily for home defense.

I am interested in reliability and good value for the dollar. I have looked at some Surefire but there are lots of options and a wide variety of "brightness" for lack of a better term. I'm not sure at what point "bright is bright" and anything over that is pointless.

What say you OB?

I've had various Surefire lights in the past, but my current go to is the InForce APL 3. I'm sure there are tons of variants for it now, but it's been on my nightstand gun for a while, and works for me.

Surefire x300, streamlight tlr1, even the new tlr7as are darn good.

No olights. You want a light, not a chicom grenade.

So those who aren't outfitting a gucci gat, do you have any recommend for a 50-ish dollar light that isn't junk?

I dont know of a $50 weapon light that isnt junk.

If you can catch a sale, streamiight tlr1 or tlr7a can probably both be found for around $125.

You dont have to spend surefire/cloud/modlight $$ but streamlight is about as low as I'd go for a light you need to work when you need it.

I'll add that both streamlight and surefire have excellent CS, warranty, and turnaround. Well worth the investment and it offsets the initial cost vs cheaper alternatives.

What are the issues with olight? Have they been known to explode or ignite from battery issues? Some of there camping/backpacking lights are very well thought of in the backpacking community so I'm just curious.

Yes, lots of battery issues. Google will show you plenty of examples.

Not related to their quality but they also pay youtubers $$ to shill their products heavily, which is slimy…and makes me suspect of any "influencer" telling me olight is g2g

I have a Surefire X300 on my G19x and a Streamlight TLR-7 on my G43x. Would highly recommend both.

Inb4 lights are for poors, get nightvision crew.

Streamlight recommendationfrom me. Have them on 19s, 30S and sig 365. Carry and bedside guns. Great fit, quality and reliability.

Thanks for all of the input!

I had seen the Olights and of course the price point is attractive but definitely not going there.

Surefire or Streamlight.

If money is no object modlights, but harder to get holsters for it.

My HD pistol is a XDm 45 with a Streamlight TLR-3. Pretty happy with the setup and the lume it puts out. It's not Clark blinding Margot and Todd bright, but pretty dang bright and will disorient a thug while I ensure thug is indeed a thug.

I guess I'm the outlier here but I won't buy another Surefire, terrible output, terrible beam shape, and 2 of 3 I've owned have failed with no abuse. Currently using a Streamlight ProTac and an Olight Odin Mini and happy with both so far Honestly, the Olight has far and away the best beam, waiting to see on durability but build quality seems really good.

ETA, these are all rifle mounted. Also have a TLR and Inforce APL on pistols and no complaints about either

My dad gave me his last service pistol before he passed. It has a Streamlight TLR-2s on it. It's pretty slick. I carry that gun on occasion while hunting, but it's a bit of a pain to get out of the holster due to the light.

ETA - I sent it back to Streamlight a couple months ago because the battery door was cracked at the hinge. They repaired it and sent it back no questions asked or fee.

I also ran a Surefire x-300 and loctite is your friend.

NSR tactical can make you a holster with that specific gun/light combo. Their site can guide you towards
the holster that will work.

Have a viridian laser light on a fk 7.5 im happy with. has the magnetic switch. glue a magnet in the holster next to the light and it turns on when you draw, off when you holster. Great battery life.
