Howdy,
Thanks for the input. Sounds horrible. They do not wear seat belts on them since my understanding is the risk is greater to role the boat over and drown. I wonder what the girls age was. Also, wonder which guide service. I know from friends of a couple of guys throwing people off last year frequently wonder if same group.
By the way I go with Blake Muirhead he has always been great. Interested to see your list.
------- Rockport Duck Hunting and Fishing Guides ------
I believe she was 14. The guide was apparently a Manager with St. Charles Hunting club, but this was a freelance trip when the accident occurred.
I went with Blake on Tuesday. One of his guide buddies came up to him and told the story as Blake was cleaning fish. They shared some opinions on some lack safety with some of the guides down there. Blake was awesome. I found his name here on texags from someone else's post, maybe from you. Blake was booked the other days, so we only got to go one day with him. We only shot 3 ducks Tuesday morning, but should have been more (bad shots), but didn't get many chances either (just bad luck). The fishing started out slow, but Blake worked his ass off, they finally turned on around 2:30 and we slayed them. He would have stayed until dark if he needed to. That guy is a machine, and fun.
Wednesday, we did an afternoon Duck hunt with Dylan Ramzinsky 361-455 zero five one 0. Blake lined him up for us. Dylan is younger, which really resonated with teenage boys. We really liked him a lot. He took us to what they call Honey Hole, limited on Pins and Reds. 1000s of them., Got one Teal. Nothing else came in, was awesome. We were planning to fish with Dylan Thursday morning, but he found oil in the bottom of his boat, thus he had to cancel. But he lined us up another guide (TL) for Thursday morning. Note - Dylan shared a little more detail on the accident, one of his buddies helped on scene....so damn sad, and horrific.
Thursday, we went with an older guide TL Matlock (retired golf course builder) 361-205-three 7 eight five. He only bait fishes but told us he would put on the fish for us to wade (soft plastics). I was a little leary on this since plastics aren't his thing. He took us to one spot, but left pretty quick, then took us North to a 150 ft slough, told us where to wade up to and throw. And we slammed them, both Trout and Redfish. I don't know if I have ever caught that many fish for such a long period, probably from 9:30 - 12 PM, straight killing them. Limited on Reds, 2 of them taggers, and 3 keeper trout.
As for the seat belts, I thought about that as well. I wonder how many actually turn over like that. Would seem when running through the channels (very shallow) the propeller cage would stop the boat from turning over. I could see wearing them through the shallows and then taking off in the deeper areas.
