This is my 2nd DIY mount and my friend is trying to convince me to not bleach. Do you guys bleach all your mounts? I've got like 99% of the tissue off the skull.

"Paint" the skull with the high concentration hydrogen peroxide gel they have at beauty supply stores. Leave on and store in a dark place for a couple days. Nice buck.

I use the hair coloring stuff. Not bleach. I like the white contrast to the dark horns.

I've never bleached. If you leave it raw, it will always look a little yellow- which may be fine for you.

Last year, I did a few with Killz White. Just let it dry and degrease it, then spray the skull (covering the horns REALLY well) with a couple layers of Killz White. It's got a little texture to it, which is nice. When it gets on the wall, it looks great. And it's 100 times easier than bleach or peroxide.

Easier, but paint is always going to look like paint.

This will brighten it while still looking natural

I like to whiten with Salon Care 40 Volume Crme, but don't brush it on.

I boil a fresh pot of water and dump the bottle into the water. It distributes the peroxide evenly and throughout each nook and cranny of the skull. I let the skull soak for about 15-20 min. Rinse with clean water once it comes out of the peroxide. And then you're good to go.

The bottom skull was whitened, the top was not. It's your call. Either way, great deer.

Leave it natural. It'll eventually go back to that color after a few years if you peroxide it.

I made this video - no bleach

I like to use 40v hydrogen peroxide as others mentioned. It evens the finish out overall. It will yellow over a few years but everything will be more even.

I kinda wish I had done all euro mounts instead of shoulder mounts.

Sort of related. Has anyone used the mountain mike's reproduction skull. I have an older shoulder mount that is deteriorating rapidly it was a powdered mount and not tanned like the newer ones.

Was thinking about taking it apart and using this reproduction skull. Any experience would be appreciated.

On a more related note I watched a few videos on youtube regarding this mount and they were using tea and coffee grounds in order to yellow it to make it look realistic. Humorous trying to make the real one more white and the fake one more yellow.

Nothing to really add but these are all diy and lightened up with the previously mentioned Volume 40 Creme from Sally Beauty.
