I sure love this board. My go-to for outdoor advice, and it's much appreciated.

So, my 20 year wedding anniversary is this June (bless her heart), and my wife has blessed me with a day of Salmon (or other species) fishing. We will be going from June 7 - June 17, which seems to be a touch early for salmon, but maybe still do-able? We are flying into Anchorage and hitting Cooper Landing, Homer, Seward, and Whittier in a loop over those days. A detour would not be out of the question, either.

Just doing google research, looks like King (Chinook) salmon are the most sought and biggest, but limited to one per day on 2022 regs. Are Sockeye the only other species coming in by then? I'd love to hit an area where I could catch my King, then finish out with Sockeye, but I'll admit that I have no idea if it works that way. Should I skip Salmon due to the time of the year, and do Halibut?

Looking for general advice and maybe even some guide recommendations.

Thanks in advance!! I promise to post trip pictures!

Don't underestimate the Rainbow fishing on that river - some monster 'bows in there!

Several years ago my family used this guy for a day of salmon and trout fishing there in Cooper Landing.

I thought he was excellent.

To add to my last post, they will probably not be in the rivers by then. It will be close. They will however be all over the mouths.

Do a combo with J&Js and spend the night in one of the cabins overlooking the sea.

Thank me later.

This is a common comment from everyone I ask. Trophy rainbows, I like the sound of that!

Used this guide a couple years ago for coho and reds around the Kenai. Highly recommend guides if you are only there for a short time and don't have friends to clue you in on what or where to fish.

Brad was really good for getting us on fish and helpful for getting them frozen for the trip home. Great trip overall!

Kings are hit and miss depending on the season, but as of late it seems that fishery is collapsing. Reds have swelled in response and it seems that is the dominant fishery in the Kenai area.

Cooper Landing is absolutely beautiful and as others have said the rainbow fishing is the best in the U.S. Monster 20" trout are fairly common especially during the spawning season.

Also highly recommend halibut fishing down at Homer, we took over 200lbs of meat from that trip with barn door sized buts.

Good luck and happy fishing!

Gotcha. I was thinking Chinook and Sockeye.

Unsure when kings start running, but I went on a trip out of Soldotna where we flew to the Nushagak river. Landed a couple of bigguns.

Later my old man and I rounded out what we considered our trifecta - halibut in Homer and a lingcod out of Seward.

Have fun and tight lines.
