Got a buddy that is down to these two as a Christmas gift to his 14 year old boy.

Which is the better gun? I am not familiar with either but bet I can get an opinion here?

416 is what I bought since I wanted all aluminum. The S&W is a good gun too but felt too much like plastic. Definitely lighter than the 416 though.

We've got the m&p 15-22. Extremely fun gun. Surprisingly accurate.

With a suppressor it is easily the most fun gun I own to shoot.

Sorry I can't give a comparison review but I've got the S&W and it's awesome! Accurate and reliable as can be!

I've got the HK, pops has the S&W. I also wanted mine to feel more "real" vs plastic as mentioned above. Pops wanted the killer deal PSA frequently runs with extra mags and a case. Both seem to be made well.

No experience with the H&K, but I can tell you my MP 15-22 is one of the most fun guns I own! It is also as accurate as my 10/22. Accurate enough to shoot match heads off matches. (Done for fun and $$ while deer hunting)

I have the HK, no experience with the S&W. I love the HK and to be honest the ruger 10/22 never comes out of the safe anymore. I need a 22 rifle this is my go to. So much fun supressed.

Another vote for the HK, it's been an absolute blast to shoot with the 30rd mags, got it over the S&W for the all aluminum receiver

If interested in a sig 522 I might be talked out of mine.

Got my son the 416 last Christmas. He was 14. It is accurate and reliable. S&W we had was ammo specific. We gave it away.

HK 416 has killed a ton of terrorists. I would much rather have that AR than a 22LR

It's just one example, but my MP 15-22 has problems extracting. My buddy has the H&K and it runs great. I looked at both and I feel like I chose poorly.

I have two M&P15-22's, the rifle and the pistol version. Had an issue with the extracting as well. Put in the Volquartsen extractor in both of them and it has no problem running anything I put through it. Definitely worth the $13.25 upgrade. These two guns are easily the most fun of my collection to shoot.

So to end the story,

He ended up buying a Ruger 10/22.

He told his son about the gift and got online with him and they looked at all three of the guns his son was really excited about all of the aftermarket options and all the things that you can do to a 10/22.

Smart dad. And for blasting **** in the Nevada desert it's going to work well.

Thanks for input. When I eventually get around to buying a suppressor I'm going with the HK
