Looking for a good set, don't care how it looks. just care how it works. Most importantly, the wife no longer cares how it looks. She has thrown away a lot of good stuff that works in exchange for pretty stuff that doesn't. I think we are finally on the same page.

That being said, I would prefer something hand made from an Ag, or a good dude recommended by the OB

Don't have a good suggestion for you, but I've found that the log grabber tool that most of the store bought sets includes is basically useless. A good poker, a pan, and a broom are all you really need.

I've used a Dunlop putter from Walmart for my fire poker for years for our outside fireplace. For the price it's served it's purpose and lasts. Just be prepared to answer questions why your sticking a golf club in a fire.

I agree that most store bought log grabbers suck but there are some good handmade log tongs that get the job done well. They are typically single pivot. Really nice when you need it. I would absolutely have a pair for a wood burning fireplace.

You can look around on Etsy to help figure out what you want and then start finding someone local to make you a set.

Needing this as well. Homemade from ag would be cool

My dad had this zig zag extension grabber with a rounded grasping end and pincer tips so you could grab a big log or a tiny twig with the same tool. Best design but I can't find one. I might make one if I get an Ox Ac setup for Christmas so I can heat steel for forming.

Pretty sure my wife got a set at lowes that looks nice & has been functional. Either there or Ace.

Something like this but with about three sections to it instead of one.

These are more about show than go but they are hand forged and the guy can customize I'm sure. Frankly my entire fireplace is all show and no go.

Not on point to the OP but in the ballpark. I was buying a new rear bumper for my Jeep on Motobilt's BF sale and decided the price was worth throwing their fire poker in the cart. I love a good campfire and have been talking about a better poker than my short handled shovel.

The ones that have just two fingers to gra are a pain. I have one that has 3 that is way better

I keep an old antique ranch brand by the fireplace and use as poker. Great for conversation, as well.

If functionality is your sole concern, a pair of welding gloves is the best fireplace tool.

These are the Yeti of fire tools. There are plenty of blacksmiths that can make equally good products, but finding them is hard. If you want to bypass that search and also bypass buying a new set every few years, break the bank and get these. The shovel is exceptional and is completely forged in one single piece. No rivets or other attachments that will fall apart in a year.

David's Stove Shop near Willow Park is where you need to go. Amazing store that has everything you could dream of related to fires. I could walk around that place for a day or two.

Oh, I get it. Read above where I bought a fire poker last week as an add-on to a Jeep bumper. They were on sale!

I found a cool looking, heavy duty set, with hammered grips on the poker, shovel and broom at an antique store in Taos. We use them for our outdoor fireplace. We get a lot of compliments.
