Been eyeballing one of the Ace Gen 2 rifles for awhile now. Looking for a non-AR 5.56 platform. Any reason, other than it's heavy, that I shouldn't get one? Mainly interested in reliability, durability, ease of maintenance and not being picky about ammo. My other considerations are a mini 14 or Bren 2.

I went done this road when I came to the conclusion ARs bore me. I went with a 14.5" 5 Bren 2 Loves to run suppressed. Because of gas system, it eats everything.

This is pre mods.

I'm about to order one to use for AK competitions. The guys running them have good things to say about them and most of the people winning are using that platform. They're allowed in AK matches as they are based on the AK operating system.

My experience with the Bren - garbage. Jammed. Jammed. Jammed. I can't type jammed enough

Galil Ace is a solid rifle, if you don't mind the weight you will not be disappointed.

ETA: The mini-14 proprietary magazine is enough to reason for me to not go that route.

Yours was 7.62, right? The 5.56 Bren and 7.62 guns were night and day reliability wise. 5.56 guns didnt have any of the extractor issues the 7.62 guns did.

Galil Ace is just an improved AK, for better and worse.

If you're looking for a different 5.56 gun you have a lot of options right now. SCAR, Bren 2, MCX, BRN180, etc.

If you want a piston AR, LWRC, Wolf A1 (T91), H&K MR556…

Bought a gen 2 in 7.62 nato. Weight penalty for sure, but not as bad as I expected. More accurate than expected as well. Toughest thing for me was the reassembly in the beginning. Took it apart just to learn it and that rear tab was a booger early on. Nothing but tons of fun now. Not sure about aftermarket for upgrades, if that's a consideration but it's good enough out of the box for my purposes (for now).
