Need some help with a suppressor

How long do you want to ignore this user?
After waiting 14 months I finally just picked up my Surefire Socom .30cal last week.

The problem now is that I apparently need a bunch of extra stuff to get it on my Springfield Socom .308.

Im new to all of this and I have no idea what I need or anything about thread patterns, gas blocks, etc. I took it to a Gunsmith up here in Plano and they showed me a bunch stuff I needed and said I should order it so I could avoid their markup, but I'm thinking some of it would be overlap/overkill.

Heres what I'm starting with:
M1A SOCOM 16 .308 Rifle - Springfield Armory (springfield-armory.com)

I've been told that to get the suppressor on I need to buy a muzzle thread adapter:

SOCOM MUZZLE THREAD ADAPTER (deltapdesign.com) ($235.00!!!!!)

AS WELL AS a flash hider. (additional $159+)

Muzzle Devices | SureFire

as you guys probably know, there is a pretty significant investment from this point and I'm trying not to put in more money than I need to or waste anything further,.

Here's where I'm running into the problem. I have no idea which to order or what is worth it. I know there are some really knowledgeable people on here and I'd love to have someone guide me into the best and most practical solution.

If you want I'd be happy to PM or throw my phone number out t here for text.

Thanks

Can you get a different gun? Might be easier…

OP - How is your Surefire can threaded? Direct thread? Or some kind of Surefire proprietary "quick attach/detach". I'm going to assume you have the fast attach system.

I'm trying to figure out how you didn't use the 14th month wait to get this all figure out...but I digress.

If your Surefire is direct thread, then you wont need any other kind of adapter/flash hider with adapter.

If your Surefire is the fast attach system, then yes - you will need their adapter on top of the the adapter for your M1A.

I'm not a fan of stacking adapters on top of adapters on top of attach systems, just bc of more places for failure/reduction of accuracy, but this looks like the only way to get your M1A set up for shooting shhhhh-ish.

Here is what you need right here.

Yes it seems you will need to purchase that muzzle adapter. From the link you provided.

https://www.deltapdesign.com/products/deltapdesign/muzzleadapter/socom16/socom-muzzle-thread-adapter

Once the delta design muzzle adapter is on you will thread the Surefire three prong adapter on.

Your suppressor mounts to the Surefire three prong

It's available at midway. But you can search using the part number to see if any other vendors you like to shop from have it in stock.

I dont think any of the SOCOM line is direct thread. You will need a muzzle thread on your M14 and then a Surefire muzzle device with QA for the suppressor.

Not uncommon by any stretch to need one or both.

The muzzle device will act as a part of the suppression baffle system. You will get better performance out of it anyway.

OP, I have a used surefire adapter for 30cal I have been wanting to sell. This is the same as what Was linked above, so I'm thinking it would work for you. I'd ask $100, I'm in BCS. 281sixfivenine5591

Please be VERY VERY careful with a muzzle adapter and a can. It's a recipe for disaster if not timed & installed correctly. I know you don't want to hear this OP but that's not the best weapon to throw a can on. It wasn't designed for it and it's known to have all sorts of reliability issues with the extra back pressure from the can.

If you do get a can mounted on it, I highly recommend checking the alignment of the can/muzzle with an alignment rod.

Nothing worse than waiting all that time for a suppressor and then sending it down range the first time out.

Having done this to a 22" and a scout, I highly recommend enjoying your m1a1 Socom as-is.

The 18 inch and lowers are so unreliable to be not worth it to suppress. The only one I've seen work reliably is the standard 22".

ETA: you'll also need an adjustable gas plug to make it cycle somewhat reliable.

ETA2: it was late, so I forgot to add shims and a gas cylinder wrench and at the least, borrow someone's .308 bore rod to double check the barrel/adapter/muzzle device concentricity after timing it all up and tightening it down. As mentioned above, a baffle strike is not cool after waiting so long.

Unitizing or timing with shims also improves accuracy even if you're not going to add a can. Springfield doesn't always have it just right out of the box.

Forgot about this. Poster above is correct. Add an item to the list.

Not trying to dog pile on OP, but this is just not the right gun/host to start with if wanting to run a suppressor.

I wouldn't say it isn't the right one... not the easiest, but one of the coolest when done!

Then again look on the bright side... reason to buy another gun!

Hate to go off subject…but I bought my 30 cal can for my ar-10 that eye guy built me and of course as most of us know, once you buy a can you just start buying guns that fit the can.

I've found my absolute favorite way of shooting suppressed is with a bolt action rifle. There's just something about it I can't describe that puts a smile on my face every damn time

Now that we've figured all this out, I have a Springfield Socom I'd sell if anyone else wants to run this set up
