I have always planned to purchase Lifetime Super Combo licenses for my grandchildren and give it to them on their 1st Christmas. I had the first one back in August - Anyone know how soon TPWD will let you purchase? The only thing I see that might apply is the requirement that the applicant has been a Texas resident for at least 6 months - does in the womb count? Both parents are permanent Texas residents and the baby was born in Texas.

Has anyone tried it before the baby was 6 mos old? TIA

First off, amazing gift. Give them a call, the worst case is they don't let you buy one off the bat. And even if you are not allowed to buy right away, wrap up a gift with some hunting accessories and a card detailing that he is receiving one. The great thing about your gift is that it's not absolutely needed come December 25th because of his age. Again, amazing gift!

You must have a SS number to buy it.

I looked at doing this for my son years ago and at that time you couldn't buy it until they were 16. Again it's been years so maybe that has changed

Just fill it out and send it. Should have no problems. Or call. People I have talked with were super nice (lifetime license mailed to me, sandhill crane license, etc.)

Social security will be needed at some point, but I think that is when you get your actual license and certain age. They will let you buy the lifetime license. Got them for both my kids.

Thanks for the input. Website says you can purchase it at offices - I might just go by one of the Houston locations and talk to them.

I still don't understand why they priced these things at $1,800. That's over 26 years worth of super combo licenses?

I thought about getting it for my boys but will likely wait till their older.

But there's a risk they increase it again. Looking back $1000 was a bargain and I knew they used to be less. I think next year is the year I finally start coming out ahead.

My dad got me one when I turned 18. Used it a bunch since then. Thank him everytime.

In 26 years it will probably already have paid for itself several times with inflation.

A Lifetime Wild Sheep Foundation membership would also give him a lot of chances to draw a sheep tag…

When I bought mine around 2004 it was only $1,000 and at that time it was just over 15 years payback.... If you didn't include opportunity cost. Licenses have come up a little but not a ton since then. Will inflation change that??

That said I'll probably buy my son his at 16... He's almost 13 now at the rate he loves fishing and hunting

The thing everyone should also factor in….. you still get your license free every year even when you move to another state. Non-resident licenses in Texas are not cheap and this was huge for me when I moved out of state.

Your kids/grandkids may move out of Texas and when they do, they'll be even more thankful to you.

I am well into the years that mine is paying me back. I bought it the last year it was $1000, when the broadcasted the rate increase was coming. I would do it.
