I have been hunting my place for 15 years. And i have yet to shoot a nice buck. See them all the time. Try every form of blind/stand/feed/scent/decoy/etc that I can. It is just damn hard to get within 50 yards of the bad boys. I have about a 2000 yard long bean field that we flip to wheat after harvest. I set up in one location, they come out in another. I set up where they came out yesterday, they come out where I was the day before. It is maddening. Does and small bucks are really not a huge issue. I haven't shot a small buck in years. If it isn't going on the wall, I don't shoot it. We have a plethora of doe for meat hunts. I guess one day, if ever, that I stick a big one, all of this will make it that much sweeter.

This guys ran out yesterday, got about 80 to 100 yards from me and turned direction. I didn't have my binos so pic is about 200 yards with my phone through my range finder.

And that's why I rifle hunt. There's enough frustration in it for me. Kudos to those of you who bow hunt.

You have to have a subscription for that. And I am poor. I spend all my money chasing these dang deer and ducks.

I used to hunt some bean fields in highschool that had a really overgrown fenceline with a cleared fire lane that ran along behind it. Deer came out too far, we'd scoot down the inside of the fence and never be seen. I don't know how thick your woods are but maybe you could clear a path just inside the woods?

Is there a muzzleloader season? Some of the modern ones have impressive range capabilities.

Oh, and that's one hell of a buck!

Get a muzzleloader?

Oklahoma Muzzleloader is about a week long. Every weapon you add to the season as a non-resident adds about $300. Adds up pretty quickly

I'd spend an extra $300 for that buck.

Bow hunting is incredibly frustrating, that's what makes connecting on a mature buck with a bow meaningful. That said, nothing wrong with grabbing the boom stick either. Hunting should be fun. Lot of people making it harder than it needs to be, hunt how you want.

That said, if you can't intercept them right at the food source, can you work backwards into a transition area where the wind is on your side and catch them on the way to the wheat? Without knowing anything about the property, I'd be trying to catch them on the way to food in the afternoon. Sneak in and setup mid-day in a saddle

You should try archery elk hunting, aka "really expensive camping"

I feel your pain almost every weekend. Watched a double beam stud 14 pointer other day for 30 minutes around 100 yards, had a big one at 15 yards with no shot last weekend.

Don't get me wrong, I pick up a rifle here and there but it's so dang rewarding to outsmart a mature buck with a bow. Anyone can kill a deer with a rifle.

I am going to purchase a muzzle loader so I can hunt late October next year. A lot of good deer on camera and muzzle loader opens up the range

But it expensive at $300 per season

They get big because they dont do the same routine every day. Some deer just wander, and dont eat and bed down the same place everyday. Those are the ones with best chance to get really big cuz you cant pin them down on a pattern. The handful of monsters we've ever seen on our place have been seen exactly one time. They either stepped out and got shot, or we saw them in a cam one time and never to be seen again.

saw a good buck at like 75 yards in the woods while bow hunting. I know the pain

if you bowhunt like a rifle hunter it is gonna be tough. quit trying to bowhunt a 2000 yard long buffet line.
