This was the best photo I could get. It has small fruit on it. From a distance the look like tiny peaches. Anyone know what it is?

In the Brazos Valley?

It looks like the native citrus I swung a machete at before I knew there were native citrus in the Brazos Valley. Cut open a fruit or three that I didn't see at first and it was the most intense lime smell I've ever experienced.

It's in Magnolia.

Now that you mention it, the leaves to look citrusy.

Loquat.

But the leaves are awfully wilted for this early.

But I can see persimmon as well. Especially in the fruit on that tree.

That's a Persimmon. Have you ever eaten one? Wait till the first frost or till they fall to the ground. Unbelievably good.

I vote persimmon as well. Hard to be positive with photo-could also be Mexican plum.

Not a Mexican plum. They fruit very early in the year and the leaves are very different than the photo.

True-fruit on the one we have at the farm is typically earlier in year. Leaves on the Mexican plum here in Houston look very different from the one growing wild amongst the cedars at the farm in Fayette county.

Persimmon if not hard serrations on the leave edge.
Otherwise possibly loquat?
Doesn't look like sour orange or citron.

That is definitely not a persimmon. Looks like a loquat.

Definitely persimmon. In addition to the fruit, most persimmon leaves will develop black spots as the season goes on, as visible on the leaves in the pics.

Is it in a yard or developed area?
The native American or Common persimmon are fairly abundant in East Texas, but sometime people graft Asian persimmon onto native American persimmon root stock. If so, I believe they have slightly larger and more abundant fruit.

That tree was in a subdivision in Montgomery County. It may be on someone's property, as opposed to undeveloped common area, but even so, it doesn't look like it was intentionally planted there. It's not in someone's yard. This one was in the trees along the road… there is at least one other I have seen and that was in someone's yard.

The fruit are very small. Smaller than a large lemon.

That's definitely a persimmon. The boundary I was surveying when I discovered the citrus had a marked "8-inch persimmon" as a corner that was definitely 10-inch plus by the time I found it. That was in Washington County.

Did you take the photo in the OP with one of the persimmons?

I did take that photo. It took me a while to locate the tree again to get better photos of the fruit. But now I know where it is.

I wasn't able to get very close on that first picture. Had to take the photo from the street. It is, admittedly, of very poor quality.
