The only "not expensive" place I found that is worth going back to in the area is Village Pizzeria on Coronado.
They have lots of outdoor seating and sell by the slice and a beer was something like $4

A co worker recommended Pacific Beach Fish shop when we went 9 years ago. I remember it being very good. Casual, outdoor seating place

No cheap out here.

South Beach Bar & Grill seems to be a good spot that we've found with good food and doesn't break the bank. It's in OB.

Ate at Mike Hess in IB last week. Good tacos, but churros were the bomb.

For cheap though, hit up the tacos. Tacos El G my favorite, but going to try Ed Fernandez Restaurant Birrieria which yelp claims is the best in the US.

George's on The Cove in La Jolla

You will spend a little money but it is 100% worth it. Go at sunset. Beautiful views. Fire pits in the middle of the tables. Sit on the patio

Check out Serrano's Street Tacos located in the Gas Lamp District. Been there twice and has not disappointed. Great food and ambiance.

In Little Italy we really likes Mona Lisa
In Old Town we really liked Casa Guadalajara (warning huge portions!)
In Gaslamp District I really liked Cerveza Jacks and Union Kitchen and Taphouse

Hit up the Gaslamp Quarter, lots of places there - pick one and enjoy. Most will have live music as well.

Hit up the Midway, there are a few touristy places there, but most are pretty decent. Several places on Coronado, half the fun to me is taking a chance on a place and finding out if it's good or not.

A lot of good places already mentioned I'll add Filippi's Pizza Grotto Little Italy. Craft & Commerce - they also have a secret bar which is behind the big cooler door. It's a Tiki Bar called False Idol
