Wanting one for a few upcoming trips. Was thinking either Christensen Arms Traverse or Winchester Model 70 Alaskan.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? I can't seem to find either available anywhere online.

I've been looking for either (or for a used cz 550 to roll in) for a customer for a couple months now. I'd probably go Christensen but I'd take either one myself

Christensen has terrible QC. Most of their rifles great, but quite a few bad ones. I would go Winchester if choosing between the 2.

I looked for awhile but I was looking for a specific animal. It had to be a model 70 classic stainless early six digit serial number. Finally found one it took awhile and was not cheap but based on todays prices I got a deal. I haven't seen many on gunbroker either lately and if they have them they typically aren't stock they have been modified. If I see something will let you know.

I think after the "Africa" thread the only acceptable answer is get a Blaser R8 Ultimate.

I have a .375 HH in a Sako 85 Classic. Had it for awhile. Really has been a quality accurate rifle. My nephew just got a Sako 85 Kodiak and it is really nice.
I have a number of Sako's in varied calibers and really like their traditional workmanship and quality.

I have one in a CZ 550 with the European stock. I like it a lot, still waiting to take it hunting.

my brother shot a hole through his foot with a 375 h&h while moose hunting alone in Alaska. Luckily he was able to hike to a road and get a ride in to a nearby village where he called his wife to come pick him up. Went home (he was living up there) and finally went to the hospital after a couple of days.

So my suggestion is make sure the safety works well whatever you get...

Depending on the safety to work is, well, a good plan for shooting yourself in the foot.

Your brother sounds "special."

OP.... Looks like Sports South has the Traverse in 375 in stock... I need to update info with them as I haven't used them in a while, but there are some available right now.

I'd like to add a 375 H&H to my collection. I like the old classic calibers. They are hard to find new. This past spring at the giant Tulsa gun show I handled quite a few. I liked the Sakos and Winchesters the best.

Looks like gunbroker has a few. I like character, so long as performance isn't sacrificed too much.

I am not familiar with the one japantiger used, but would be willing to research it. I am guessing his budget might be different than mine I am working hard to get there though! Have to have something to look forward to.

Bergara also makes the Ava ton in 375 H&H but don't know if they have hit the market yet!

Fierce Firearms makes one too, but I think it is the same as Christensen as they were partners or something originally.

For some reason I lean towards the winchester or weatherby. Might just be brand recognition

A Winchester Model 70 CRF is the classic for a 375H&H. Get an African Express model or Alaskan model. I am partial to the Model 70 classic stainless that are discontinued but available on the secondary markets. All
can be found on Gunbroker or brand new for a decent price around $1,200-$1,500.
Great caliber for almost anything and can be loaded with 235 to 350 gr bullets depending on the game being hunted. I've used mine to hunt everything in Africa, to Elk, to Whitetails and Pigs.

Ive seen issues with Christensen not firing in sub zero temps. If just planning to take it to Africa, no biggie.
I went with Weatherby.

It is heaven on earth for firearm enthusiast. Truly the largest gun show in the world. I went for a couple of years and got on the waiting list for a table. Have had a table for three years now.
I think someone said to see the entire show you can only spend 30 seconds per table. It is amazing. You can find anything to your hearts desire.
The isles and tables are numbered so you can find a table if you need to go back to it.
It is twice a year. April and November.
You can't help but love it. Make sure you got plenty of money in your savings account!

Wanenmacher's Tulsa Arms Show

I've been twice. This year, and once about 8 years ago. Both times in April (I'm hunting in November). It's a high quality show. Mostly guns. I think all the vendors are vetted prior to getting tables.

If you're looking for something specific you can buzz through the tables pretty quick. Even still, I believe I was there for 4-5 hours this year looking for 375s. I found a winner (Winchester Model 70) on like the second row this year. I buzzed back to make an offer after I walked the whole show only to find a guy buying the rifle for a Safari. You snooze, you lose!

Did not see one single Tikka T3/T3X! I guess that speaks well for people holding on to good shooters.

Go to Drury's get a pre 64 Winchester they will guarantee it. Dad just purchased one this year. Already back from Africa results were good. He has is shooting 1"moa with reloads.

That is good to know, I thought it was only once a year and would have to miss some hunting to go in November. I will put it on the schedule for April.

Most gun shows these days are all AR and tactical driven. Gone are the days of seeing tables and tables of wood stocked rifles and shotguns.

Don't get me wrong I love the AR and tactical stuff too, but I like and collect both and wood stock rifle and shotgun sources are drying up.

While I am obviously a big fan of the Blaser; I used a .375 H&H Sako 85 Classic to take the 1st two buffalo I ever shot. Fine rifle.

I love my CZ550. I got the euro style one with the curved butt stock. The set trigger is a nice feature as well

My grandfather gave me his African gun. Colt Sauer .375 H&H with a Swarovski scope. Wood grain is incredible. It's in the safe and will pass down to my grandchildren.
