This is not a debate regarding dry rub versus BBQ sauce. I much prefer a basted BBQ sauce over a dry rub any day.

With that said, what do you all like to use when you cook ribs if you use a barbecue sauce? Do you buy a store-bought sauce or make your own? TIA

I buy Stubb's spicy and dump a quarter cup out. Then In add in a quarter cup of apple cider vinegar and give it a good shake.

For home made search for "Neely's BBQ Sauce".

I just use a generic BBQ sauce and add my superior dry rub to the bottle to make it delicious

Here's a homemade BBQ sauce I make all the time.

Ingredients
3 1/2 cups ketchup
3/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup Rice wine vinegar
1/2 cup water
1/3 cup brown sugar packed
1/3 cup Worcestershire Sauce
4 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon cumin
2 teaspoons onion powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/3 teaspoon course black pepper
1 tablespoon onion powder

Mix all the ingredients in a pot bring to simmer for 20 mins stirring often. Then let it cool and add to a Mason jar. Use to serve on the side with other BBQ or use sauce to baste your Ribs on smoker.

If your wanting a pre made, franklins vinegar bbq sauce at HEB is hard to beat for mopping.

For myself, I mix 1 bottle Stubbs regular, half bottle franks buffalo wings sauce, bottle of the bear shape honey (don't know what size). Mop that on the last hour uncovered.

I like head country apple habanero the most, but any decent sauce you like, cut it with 1/4-1/2 apple cider vinegar and you are good to go for a glaze/mop on ribs. Too easy for me to go with store bought sauce vs making my own.

Last set of ribs I smoked I glazed with a simple syrup concoction. Just took some sugar and dissolved it down in some water with heat, then mixed in a small amount maple syrup, and brushed that on the ribs at the end to give a sweet bite without being too overpowering. Worked out well in my opinion.

I like to try new things. I will give this one a shot. Thanks for posting! Does it end up being slightly sweet, yet spicy?

Hint of sweet, has some tang and then little bit heat.

I buy sweet baby rays, then put a little in an empty bottle and mix in a little vinegar and hot water to thin it out.

Anyone have a recipe for the Coopers in Llano style sauce?

The Cooper's Llano sauce to me is more of a Mop that is used to baste meat while smoking but they also use it as a sauce too. My German Grandfather had a BBQ mop recipe that is similar to this. Also Snows Tootsie makes a BBQ mop as well.

Call me weird but if the cook turns out usually I don't want anything on it.

There have been times though when I was glad I had some around.
I don't think you know me.

Head country original…cut with apple cider vinegar/apple juice mix I use for spritz….dust in some rib rub

Use that for a glaze last 5-10 min

No sauce needed when serving

I like a nice glaze over bbq sauce if I'm not wanting dry rubbed ribs. I usually use about a cup of pepper jelly, couple Tbls AC vinegar, Tbls ketchup, and a tsp or two of rub. Heat in a microwave until warm and the jelly melts then whisk to combine. Apple jelly works if you don't want the heat.

If I use a commercial one, this is it. The HEBs has it.

I use Stubbs sticky sweet on ribs. It caramelizes extremely well and gives you that nice sticky texture on your ribs.

Cut Texas Pepper Jelly with a little bit of a mild BBQ sauce (I like Head Country original). Adjust the amount of BBQ sauce to your liking for heat, color, etc.

I got 2 racks of Berkshire Pork Ribs probably put them on smoker tomorrow. I use the 3,2,1 method. When I use that 3,2,1 he's what I do right before the wrap process.

Right before I wrap, I'll spray them with apple juice. Then I like to take some softened ghee & spread on the ribs. Then add some Tiger Sauce. Then sprinkle brown sugar on the ribs, & last add a mixture of peach jelly/agave nectar. Use your hand to rub all that together on both sides of each rack of ribs.

Wrap them and back on smoker for 2 more hours. Then the last hour of the 3,2,1, I'll take the ribs off the smoker and unwrap them. Then I'll Mop them with either a Mop or BBQ sauce. Then back on the end of the smoker far away from the fire box & leave them on to set that glaze. Once they get to internal temp of 195 degrees I'll pull the ribs off smoker and let them rest.
