Daughter is in a rental in upstate NY with no AC. Besides a window unit install, are there options in portable AC unit to cool a room 10 x 20?

Thank you.

We have a couple of De'Longhi Pinguinos from Costco. Have a hose that runs to the window and are on wheels. We store them in closets after the summer is over. Not cheap ($5-600/ea), and not quiet, but do a good job cooling a bedroom.

Window unit will be cheaper and work better.

You can install a small window unit and have it up and running in 20 minutes. The small roll around units with the vent pipe install are also easy to install, but are not as cheap, and are not nearly as efficient or effective. Additionally, you have to either dump the condensate tub by hand, or run a plumbing line. We have both for hurricane purposes to run off our generator, but I would go with the window unit if at all possible. GL.

Some rentals may not allow window units. If she is in one of those the best option is one of the roll around units with a short insulated run to a window for the exhaust. Bonus if you can run the condensate line outside so you don't have to empty the pan twice a day.

We have a black and decker portable from Amazon. It's pretty handy. Can keep a room comfortable on the generator when power is out, or get the bedroom really cold if that's your jam. It takes up some floor space, but it vents out the window so no tanks to dump.

Styrofoam cooler, bag of ice and a box fan… as portable as they come!

I live in CO- our master is about 20x30. We have a Honeywell portable A/C. It vents out the window, and cools the room down very well. I understand not wanting to install a window unit- especially in snowy/icy environments. This portable unit has been doing extremely well for 5 years now. Highly recommend.

As long as it's doable/allowed in her building, a window unit would be easiest. In that part of the country they're sold everywhere. Easy to install, and easy to take down. Store it in the closet for the winter.

We have a couple Portable A/C units for hot days in NH. They require no drip pan emptying or plumbing. They are quiet, in and out of the window in 15 seconds and do a great job. They roll into the back of the closet when not needed. Window units are an eyesore.

ETA: THESE are the ones we have, going strong for 3-4 years.

I have to agree, purchase a 12,000 btu that works off 110 volts wall plug and you will have plenty to keep that apt really cold
