Which is your choice, why, and is there really much of a difference between the two?

DD is a little harder to get - at least it's not convenient for the most part, but not horribly out of the way either. Antlermax is usually what is at the feed stores or TSC, so that's what I've been feeding.

I have a really long answer that someone once told me and I dont really feel like typing it all out (and have probably forgot most of the "talking points") so I will revert to the most common answer that makes the most sense to me

choose the one they like eating the most.

We've been feeding Antlermax for 19-20 years. It hurts right now at $16.25/bag...

Deer at our place in Fayette county hammer double down-tried antler max, and a bunch of others and not so much. MG feed in Weimar makes RaxMax with similar attractant to DD-put some in feeder last weekend. Hope they like it the same-more accessible for me to get and less expensive.

I had no idea that deer are picky about what type of protein feed that they eat. I figured they gobble it down regardless of brand.

Cotton seed
Coons and hogs don't mess with it, weather resistant, 22% protein, amazing for adding weight to deer and rut recovery, don't need expensive feeders, cheaper

Y'all ever used coonhoods for your protein feeders. They work welll. Decrease loss significantly

Use MG feeds 20% protein in Fayette county too. Deer utilize it fine late winter and summer, but right now nothing is hitting feeders since the little rain we got last week has everything greened up. 12.50 a bag makes it hard to pass up. Also a few bags of $25 cereal rye planted in October will get them a lot of good food in January and Feb.

Pigs seem to like my cottonseed

That's because that Hampshire in there is used to it and has educated the other wild hogs

Even though I have about 14 gins within a 40 mile radius...cotton seed is incredibly difficult to get around here, and I wouldnt' go through enough to justify buying it by the ton or bale

I'll be planting 8 acres of iron and clay cowpeas, soybeans, milo, okra, chicory, Sunn hemp and sunflowers this weekend-then cereal rye and a blend of other stuff in September. Year round food plots have helped in keeping deer on our place.

Hoping that rain next week comes through! Got sunn hemp, buckwheat and okra planted sunday, then the chance of rain this week evaporated. Leaving my cereal rye from the fall standing this year to try and add fawning cover (it's about waist high right now). We had a 100% fawn mortality last year between the flood and yotes.

Do you no-till drill or disc and broadcast?
Looks like 50% chance middle of next week.

I throw and mow, or throw and spray depending on the situation. Stuff I planted last week I ran a drag harrow over to get better seed to soil contact since I was unsure on the rain timing.

Did brassicas, clover and cereal rye with good success last fall. Just have to stick to smaller seeds.

That's probably easier-I took the plunge and bought a Great Plains no till drill last year. Apply 1/2 the rate of seed and get much better germination rate-but it will take a lot of years to save enough on seed to cover expense of the drill. Bought it primarily to minimize reliance on rain just after seeding. Would love to visit your plots and see what is working best for you-always enjoy swapping methods and stories with other hunters and game managers.

Just started protein two years ago. Started with AntlerMax, then Double Down, now trying RHR from Dilley F&G - trying to save a little. Haven't noticed any difference in consumption yet.

Also running a little cottonseed, but doesn't seem to be the cost savings it used to be. And, planted some Pogue spring mix for the first time.

All that, and I don't expect to see any improvement unless we get some rain also.

This. If we don't get some rain in South Texas soon, it may not matter what we put out.

No joke. Went out to the lease today and it was like walking on Cheetos. I did manage to find one shed horn…..never seen this deer before and zero game cam pics of him.
