How long do you want to ignore this user?
After 20+ years since my last turkey hunt at San Angelo State Park, I finally drew a turkey tag this year and heading out there this Thursday for the weekend hunt. Have any of you good Ags been out in the last few years on a turkey hunt and how did you fare? Any Ags that live out in the Concho Valley have any experience with turkey hunting in the Park? Any crumb of intel you can share is greatly appreciated!!!

As bad as the recent drought has been out there, it seems finding any water source will be the key to locating and finding birds. I'm guessing the Concho River has some water in it but only in pockets as it traverses through the Park and a couple of the hunting compartments. There should also be plenty of roost trees along the Concho River and a little scouting trip on Thursday and Friday will hopefully turn out to be worthwhile.

Thanks in advance Ags and look forward to bringing home this year's Easter dinner...

Went there probably 15 years ago. Allergies were so bad I had to pop a couple benadryl and then fell asleep under an oak. We camped in the state park. We marched all over the unit we were assigned. Saw one hen. Got back to camp, damn tom walking through our campsite. Angryface.

Camped there 15 years ago during spring break - woke up to while host of turkeys gobbling - find the roost tree on you unit if you can - otherwise hunt all day as Rios keep moving and you are just as likely get one gobbling and coming in after lunch as you are in morning

Never hunted it, but I ran around Nasworthy when I lived there and I'd see a lot of birds regularly. This was in the last 18 months that I lived there.
Not sure if that helps but I at least saw birds in Tom Green County

Gobblers are henned up around here. I live adjacent to the state park and saw three strutters with a group of hens this week on my place.

Long story made short. My brother and I found some toms coming off the roost on private land Friday morning and set up a sweet little decoy spread about 500 yards away later that afternoon in the park. We put them to bed Friday evening and on Saturday morning, I called these 2 big, mature toms from 1/4 mile away to within 25 yards and got in done by 7:15am. It was cold early Saturday morning (35 degrees) and these lovesick toms came in on string!!! We made up a game plan and it played out perfectly! It was a great hunt/experience and very fortunate to share with my older brother.
