I'm not planning on making it a habit, but the stamp on my MP5 clone came back and I hadn't had a chance to get to the range since it had come in...so I shot it at the local USPSA match this weekend.
It went as well as you'd expect, lots of fumbling and mistakes. I beat myself shooting pcc with my pistol (even shooting from a retention holster in open class scoring minor) because of that, but was finally starting to figure out the gun a bit by the end of the match.
Did I look silly trying to learn on the clock how to shoot this gun? Yes. Was it still a freaking blast? Also yes. I'm posting the only semi decent stage I had with both guns at the match, which was the last one of the day.
MP5 ran great, was a little worried it would have some break in hiccups but I didn't have a single failure, only problems were all my fault, not the guns. Pistol also ran well and is ready for my run and gun match at the end of the month, which is the real reason I got out to shoot only my 3rd uspsa match in the last 3 years (man it hurts to realize that I've been shooting so little).
Don't let fear of looking silly or being bad keep you from trying new things. I'm bad at new (and even old!) things all the time and have a blast anyway.
