We are looking to do a dove hunt this coming year and wanted to see if anyone has any outfitter recommendations? We will have a group of ~10 (couples, wives and kids) so we are looking for a place that offers lodging on site and would allow us to bring our rangers to ride around between hunts - to keep the kids entertained. We are looking for places near San Antonio but would also be open to other areas if the hunting is good. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Not sure about driving your rangers around but you could look into staying around the Frio River and driving into Uvalde, Sabinal, Knippa, or Hondo for dove hunting. The river gives the wives and kids something fun to do and you're only 20-40 mins away from usually stellar dove hunting.

You might be better off finding a place that has some acerage on AirBnb and go with an outfitter when you want to hunt. I don't know if many that would let you drive yourself around.

Is the Nooner ranch in Hondo still offering hunts? If so I'd check them out ASAP.

Nooner sold the old lodge. Still has the Valdena lodge though. We'll see about the dove hunting, I've been hunting with them for 10 years. Waiting to see what happens.

If you want white wing shooting, find a place close to Uvalde. You won't be disappointed. The golfcourse is the best lease in town but it's tied up by the Mayor.

Also if you hope to hunt with Nooner, you better start calling now. The main guide Gerry says he is retiring. They are generally booked up my end of May with deposits sent.

I mean this as a compliment, please don't take it the wrong way....but.....

I'm stunned to see anyone looking at dove hunting this early.

Years ago when I guided, you could advertise all you wanted for dove hunts, no one ever called until around mid-August. I mean nobody. (this was before the internet was what it is now, no social media etc)

Then, a few days before season, the phone would start ringing off the hook. Made it hard to plan, throw things together etc etc.

Deer leases and hunting didn't have this issue. You could book a November deer hunt in January, no problem. Doves, not so much.

A morning dove hunt, a nooner, then an evening hunt sounds pretty close to a perfect day.
